Yeah could be, but going for the cheaper option first. I had a Saxo before my Golf and it did the roughly the same thing and that was a faulty Temp Sesnor, so i'm hoping this will sort it.

What problems could the Thermostat cause?

Would just not run at 90 unless you were at traffic. When you've gone atleast 5 miles does the temp needle hit 90 and stay there?

Ah so not your 'stat then, i'd still bet on the MAF to be honest. Worth chaging the sensor though. Takes 5 minutes.
