Tips to Start
« on: 07 February 2017, 16:00 »
Hi Everyone

I'm fresh out the womb to all of this. I'm looking to start a restore to my GTi MK2 5dr. It's a total restore engine body and what ever else i come across in the process.

Can anyone give any tips on how to find a workshop to start the work at a reasonable rate?

Ring around. A full blown restoration on a mk2 is probally going to go to some different places.
Engine and gearbox will go to a rebuilder.

A paint sjop could do the shell but then it depends how well you want it doing to the cost

Cheers. Ideally i would like to have a go at some of it i.e taking the engine out and stripping down the body but workshops tend to be a bit pricey round here.

You could strip a full mk2 golf fairly easilly. I find the worst bit the inner wing bolts as there always covered in thick underseal.
Just need a basic tool kit. And a m8spline Axle stands and a jack.
I took my last engine and box out with a jack and rolled it out the front
