GTI 7.5 19" alloy recommendations
« on: 21 December 2020, 11:58 »
Hi guys,

First post here so apologies if it's in the wrong place. I was wondering what people's recommendations were for some used aftermarket 19" alloys. These would be for winter so preferably powder coated, thanks!

Cheers Guzzle!

£800-£1,000 ideally,  would you recommend a particular marketplace to pick up used?

Welcome @GTIGeordie. Any reason why you’re specifically looking for used aftermarket alloys? I’d have thought with a budget of up to £1,000 you could get some decent new wheels, and if buying new you’ll know they’ve not been damaged / had any structural repairs - e.g you could get a set of Borbet Y in a Matt Titanium painted / powder coated finish (8J x 19” ET50) from Rimstyle for £834; like these

2020 Polo GTI Plus; Pure White, DSG (because they all are)
Gone but not forgotten;
2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

Cheers guys, really nice suggestions!

@SRGTD good point, spending that amount i think I'll go for new.

The Pretoria replicas seem like a bargain too for £500.

Do you guys rotate between summer/winter alloys? Might be tempted to set them up with summer tyres and just use them all year-round. The 18" Parkers are too small/narrow for a good enough stance IMO.

Do CM wheels have any sort of approval? Only asking because I'll be looking for wheels after winter. :whistle:

I’m assuming @Aparat is asking whether or not the alloys sold by CMWheels have been safety certified (TUV, ABE, JWL or equivalent).

@Aparat; in answer to your question, I don’t know, but hopefully someone who has bought wheels from CMWheels can answer your question as;
  • the wheels should be stamped with the appropriate safety certification mark on the reverse of the spokes if they’ve been tested and passed the tests and
  • they should have been provided with a copy of the certificate when they bought the wheels
