MY19 Golf R - Down on Power?
« on: 08 January 2019, 11:00 »
Hi All,

Not posted for a while, despite reading the forum most days!

Dropped the GTi at the garage this AM for some work and got chatting to one of the sales team.

He mentioned that the MY2019 Golf R is 300 BHP rather than 310 BHP to get through WLTP sign-off. Anyone have any more details on this ? Be keen to know what different (likely minimal) it makes to overall performance, economy etc.

I believe it is true, but remember the R was only putting out 310bhp since the 7.5 face lift. All mark 7 R’s put out 300bhp.
2017 GTi Clubsport arrived June 2017
2007 Shadow Blue GTi, sold on after 10 years ownership

True. It's now running a US spec engine. No MPI, no resonator, and reduced power.

All the new UK new & unregistered 310 engine cars have been snapped up, so it's post WLTP R's from now on.
SOLD March 2021

Yes that’s the case with the R, much to the extreme delight of those that got the massive extra 10bhp before it was gone!

Thanks all! Does anyone have a spec sheet for a 2019 R? Keen to see all changes. I assume it'll have the reversing camera/winter pack as standard like the GTi does now?

Thinking about changing, but all these changes are a little worrying.

Just out of interest, do the MK7.5 GTi's with the GPF still have a reasonator? I know it's widely reported that the exhaust sounds a little fruitier than the pre facelift.
