Switching indicator stalk for one with cruise control - simple switch over?

As per other thread, the donor car is a 2002 (02) plated GT TDI 130 & the wifes car is a 2000 (X) plated 1.6 16v.

The diesel has the stalk with cruise control, the wifes car doesn't.

Is it a simple case of just remove it, switch it over, get someone to code it & job done?

If it matters then i think the wifes engine code is AZR. Has a Z in it i know that much.

We were told that it may not be such a simple thing on the 1.6 & also that there's some place in Manchester (where exactly i don't know) that will do the whole thing (supply parts, fit & code) for £150.

the 1.6 won't have the necessary wiring to the ecu so that will need to be added, awesomegti in manchester is probably the place you were thinking of

As topher said you will need to install a few wires into the ECU plug.
Think it was 4 wires, as well as one permanent live (easy to get to under steering wheel).

Then activate cruise with code using VCDS or VCP.

Quite easy to retrofit. Bit of a pain to get the wires through to ECU plug, also you'll need a quite large torx tool do take steering wheel off to get to the stalk.

150£ sounds like too much to me personally. But then again I don't pay myself for labour

Mechanics isn't really my strong point but electrics is even worse. I wouldn't even attempt this.

Found that guy. Thanks for the name. Perhaps a bit steep, i dunno, but when we're driving nearly 200 miles up to Scotland to visit the in laws i'll be thinking money well spent.

I'd do it for you but Manchester is a bit far for me or for you to pop down.... parts are about 40-60£ for the retrofit kit. If you look you can find them even for 34£ from Poland ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-4-IV-97-05-PALANCA-MANETA-INDICADORES-TEMPOMAT-CABLEADO-8L0953513J-/261679355293?hash=item3ced4e159d ).
My mate paid around 50£ for the kit with aftermarket stalk from Germany. Fitted and enabled in one evening.

Sorry to jump in on this, complete numpty here but if I am reading this correctly then am I right in thinking it would be simple enough to fit cruise to my 2001 AUM gti.

Yeah it is relatively easy.

You will need retrofit kit, do some wiring changes in loom (insert pins to ECU connector) and code the cruise control to ECU.

I am down your way for work end of month and can do the coding (maybe give you a hand with wiring too).
