This is a prefect example of when using a Credit Card is your friend, Visa or Mastercard could just whip that cash back for you.

Secondly is this some kind of special vehicle or something?

For £6,000 you could of just bought a new car...
Golf GTI 09, CW, Bi-Xenon, DCC, 18" Monza's, Jakarta, RNS510, Dynaudio, F&R parking sensors, Winter pack...

All very true, but he couldn't just go and buy a new mk2 could he? What with them being discontinued 23 years ago

And if you want a show worthy paint job you are probably looking at that, maybe less, but it's not unheard of.
It's a mk2. Fill it, drive it, enjoy it.

That is shocking! Would get at least 2 bodyshops to check the car over and list faults. Think your only way of sorting this will be court unless he starts to play ball. As long as you have a receipt and at least a couple of reports from reputable bodyshops can't see any court ruling in his favour. Of course you have to give him a chance to rectify the problems.

So I thought I should tell you all that I've actually had a resolution from the painter! He is going to fix all faults and fully respray the exterior of the car. He says it does not need taking back to bare metal and reassures me that no more faults will come up later down the line. Only time will tell. Hopefully I will end up with the end result I paid for and we don't end up back in this situation in a few months time.

Still sounds dubious that. 6k paint job should be perfect first time around as that's proffesional rates. Whoever done it was clearly not a proffesional sprayer.

What exactly was done for 6k?

I've got mates in the trade so get my paint work at at mates rates but even so I'm struggling to see how you've spent that much?? Unless there's more that's been done rather than it's a quick blow over!

I would give painter one more chance to get it right. if he fails I would be after a full refund. £5900 for that is just stupendous
