Best stock alloys and look, help please :)
« on: 22 May 2014, 00:36 »
Hi guys new to the mk1 gti, just purchased a nice example in black, it was the one for sale at Stamford Hall a few weeks back if anybody spotted it in the for sale section.

Was a mission for me to collect it, but was well worth it.
From Manchester took, 2 trains and a tube to collect from Chelmsford.
Then 4 hours drive home :)

Anyhow it has some after market 15" alloys (any idea what make they are ??) and i want it all back standard for the right stock look and reckon it will handle and ride better.

Its the 1982 year and was wondering what to choose for a factory stock look, was debating between the Pirelli P Slots or the Tarantula style ones, was reading the P Slots came on the campaign model only ?? So not sure what is more right for the non campaign models.

From the pics what else do i need to make it more original looking, i think the headlights shouldnt have the crosshairs in them so gather these should be clear hella ones ?

Interior is fine and all stock. Apart from the tape deck, yes i really want the exact same one if poss, any ideas ??

Ive seen some pics of them with grey side decals as well.

Heres it all snow foamed up first day after i got her home :)

Very clean,  As you say, the campaign models came with 14" Pirelli P slots 185/60/14, the GTi's came with 13" 'Tarantula' style 175/70/13...  A bit skinny, but they do hang on well.  Everything else came with steel 13".

Oh, and a twin headlight grill, without the cross hairs...

Funny enough been searching for some Pirelli P Slots since i posted this months ago and only just bought a set last week with center caps that wernt stupid money.

So with the front grille, ive seen a fair few with single headlights, was it just the campaign models that came with the twin headlights or all GTIs ??

Thx for any pointers :)
