I recall it initially being free map updates for three years, then it was changed to five years and now possibly lifetime?? It is certainly lifetime on the current versions anyway, not sure if this is the same for the pre current MIB2 and MIB1 though. It's free now for them so all good for the minute anyway.  :whistle:

This states it is free updates for life but doesn't mention or include or exclude older or newer/current versions so us folk on the older stuff might be O.K. hopefully - http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/need-help/technology/how-much-does-update-cost

It would suck to have to pay for map updates...

Lifetime now then.... ok...

I am not sure that there ever was a technical mechanism to restrict the update beyond the free period... to do it they'd have probably made a login based system where you register with your VIN - like with CarNet.

But they never did.
