Front bumper - protecting against theft
« on: 23 May 2019, 11:19 »
Apart from the obvious actions such as garaging and parking nose first etc, what options are there for proactive protection against theft and how effective are they?
Interested in any ideas that people have used (or thinking of using) and any links to sites to get the correct size security bolts (if they exist) etc please.
I seem to read about these thefts on a regular basis, and I am concerned whenever I have to park anywhere that is not up to my usual cursory security tick list standards!
I have read about some people using ‘security bolts’ and ‘coach bolts’?
Just want to do what I can to protect my car, and reduce the likelihood of all the potential attendant grief and expense of an insurance claim.
Cheers

Is this a WU? It may be just me? But I've not heard or seen a plague of bumper thefts anywhere.
I've removed the front and rear bumpers and it ain't a simple job, b sight easier to nick the car

If they want it they will take it but it only because everyone has access to the internet you hear so much about it. I wouldn't worry personally.

It's certainly not a common occurrence, but a few members on here have been victims;-

Nope - not a WU CHB100!
Apparently there is a steady market for them for some people who want to chav up their Caddy vans, and not purchase one through the normal channels......
Hence the question 😀

Try not to worry about it OP, there are loads of things that might happen. No sense in getting worked up over something that is by far more likely not to happen.

Would you rather they unbolt your bumper or attempt to rip it off with the fixings in place?

Either way it’s going to be an insurance claim and a new front bumper.

You could maybe take the bumper off each time you park and put in the boot?

For the people that don't like the R Estate, you have just identified one of its advantages over the hatch.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
