hi i was hoping someone on here could help me, i have been offerend a mk4 golf gti 1.8 turbo
here is the information i have just recived on it
1.8 Turbo model
Dark Metallic Green
140,000 (motorway miles)
6 months tax and mot
Recently serviced...engine running like new
original cd unit and multichanger
All the usual CL/Immobiliser,EW,AC
16" BBS Alloys (Standard)
Bodywork is in good condition for the age of the car
HKS Dump Valve fitted...not too loud just a nice psshhh noise.
The reason i am asking is because i have been offered to swap my classic mini for this car, and i was just curious as to weather this car is within a similar price range to my mini :) so what do you think?
thanks

What year / spec is the Mini
-
Parkers price for that year in good nick with 90000 miles is £2990, minus adjustment for the extra 50K is probably about £2250 -2500
-
The mini was up for £1800 where he offered to swap it, just makes me a bit suspicious as to why someone would be willing to swap a car which is worth more?
-
No harm in checking it out, just proceed with caution and use the usual safeguards: HPI etc. Might even be worth having it checked by an independent to make sure there's nothing expensive waiting to happen....
-
i would think your looking about 2500-3000 for the golf
-
mmm just makes it seem like its too good to be true if the golf is worth almost £1000 more than the mini
-
yeh i agree with linz. alough parkers says less they still have a strong price on autotrader and pistonheads
-
right im waiting for a reply on the hpi check,
what do you think could this be a good investment even if i decide to sell the car straight away?
as im only 17 and the insurance came back at £12500 haha, so would it be worth swapping and selling the golf?
thanks :)
-
may be worth a look but you need to check it out if it seems to good to be true it could be
you need to look for signs as he may no something he is not letting on
-
Have you got a conviction for death by dangerous driving!!!!? That's gotta be a mistake quote! Swap it, minis have had their day.... I doubt you'll lose on it even if it is a lemon
-
As we've all been saying: If something seems too good to be true then it probably is.
Unless they're a little slow there's probably a good reason they're letting it go so cheap, you don't want to end up stuck with a dog you can't unload without making a big loss....
-
no ive only just passed my test a few months back, insurance is unbelivably high for 17 year olds :/€
mmm well i just emailed him saying is there any major problems with this car, because everywhere i look, golfs of similar spec and milage are going for £2500+, so why would you offer to swap with a car worth £1800?
his reply was no no major problems with the car just a small scuff on the rear bumper
-
doesnt mean he doesnt no that its going to majorly fail mot or that he may no turbo ect is on its way out
-
If he's trying to stiff you he'll hardly admit to any faults at this stage. Do you have anyone who knows cars, especially Golfs that you could take along and have them check it out?
-
mmmm, well ive got a few mates who work in garages and stuff not particularly golfs, the problem is hes in birmingham and im in huddersfield so its a big distance.
i think it is too good to be true to be honest, probably not worth the risk now i think about it.
-
well if you decide to look at it maybe try an get someone on here who lives buy him to meet you there an take a look an someone who preferably has vagcom!! im sure they will help you out if you throw sum dollor there way
-
I personally wouldn't pay any more than about £2000 for that golf with 140k on it, and its not the most desirable colour either.
-
Take a code reader or better still VCDS (vag com) and you will then have a good clue (aswell as driving it of course)
