As far as im aware the vr timing chains are due around 100k so aslong as theyve been done or you factor the cost into buying 93k with full service history could be a good buy
Sorry mate, this is incorrect.
I am a current owner of an R32 (my 2nd one) the timing chains requiring to be changed is purely a scare, they are only required IF they are outside of tolirence.
This can be measured using Vagcom, measuring blocks 208 & 209 while the engine is running.
The tolorence is anywhere between +9 & -9, once they hit -/+ 10 it will trigger the engine management light.
I had mine done purely because I needed a new slave cylinder (which is located inside the gearbox) so I had the timing chains, sprockets, guides, all gasgets, clutch & flywheel done at the same time.
In terms of the mileage, as long as it has FSH and has had The heldex oil changed every 20k miles and oil & heldex filet every 40k and normal oil changes every 12months or 10k miles, it should be fine.
When you test drive one, ensure that you red line a few gears and pay close attention to the behaviour of the clutch pedal, if it returns slowly or seems LAZY walk away.
