Help - Steering
« on: 28 March 2019, 12:42 »
Probably need to go VW but any help would be great

My 62 plate GTI is making a sort of creaking noise when im stationary and turn my steering wheel left and right, ive been to 2 garages and they cannot locate the noise?!

it sounds like its coming from the inside but when you listen next to the wheels you can hear the noise (i will try and get a video later)

my car is now pulling to the right, steering wheel moving to the right when i set off and also when im going over bumps in the road my steering wheel is also moving left to right (shimmy)

i have thought of getting an alignment but that wouldnt sort out the noise which im guessing is causing the issue

thanks (will try and get videos later)

Hard to diagnose over net but maybe as simple as the engine subframe bolts coming loose or suspension top failure. Im guessing a local garage would have already checked things like trackrod ends, ball joints, drop links, springs etc.
I would try a vw specialist local to you. Main dealers are not always the best at faultfinding issues on older cars. A specialist has probably seen the issue before.
