Title: 3dr DSG newbie saying hi!!
Post by: Woodstock84 on 08 September 2014, 13:00
Hi!, as of a couple of weeks ago i am a proud owner of a MK6 GTI 2011/61 plate 3dr DSG in black with 32,000 miles on the clock, only been a member on this site for a few days and after perusing the posts i thought i'd say hi and post a couple of pics.

Previous motor was 2007/57 CW MK5 GTI 3dr and was/currently a member of that forum, lovely motor but fancied a change as the miles were creeping quite high and fancied and upgrade.

Few extra bits on the new car which made it stand out for me:
DSG - coming from a manual this is brilliant, but feel i've fell into the lazy driving trap...oh well.
'R' side skirts....or so i've read 'blue motion' skirts, feel they set the car off really well though.
19'' Alloys - on my previous golf i had the monza II's and although they looked great when new, as soon as the white worm appeared they went downhill pretty rapid, but these seem to suit the car, not sure what kind they are though, just not looking forward to buying new tyres....
LED rear lights - loving these compared to my last golf, set the rear off perfectly.
Lowered on H & R springs - thought the ride may be a little hard with the 19's but found it ok so far.
Highline etc
Bluetooth phone prep and a few others items i keep finding out on my daily ride.

Quick couple of questions if i may?:
The car does have A/C but when the button is pressed, it just gives of the same temp air as without the air con pressed, anyone else had this? car is just shy of 3 years old so still in warranty.

The car when new was fitted was a RNS510 (i've go the manual for it anyway), but the previous owner told me that he removed it and fitted it to his wifes GTD, and installed the RCD310 instead, now i've used the Bluetooth to make phone calls in the car as it works great, but is there anyway of playing music from my iPhone to the car speakers using the Bluetooth? when i click 'Media' on the radio it comes with 2 options AUX and CD but nothing regarding the phone (unless i hook it up via AUX cable or media cable in the arm rest) there is a option saying BT? ive got that set to 'on'.

Any else i should be wary of regarding car age /miles? its on long life service as far as i'm aware so only had one service...think around 19,000

anyway a few pics:

Hi buddy,

Welcome to the forum first of all, I haven't been here long but everyone is extremely helpful, can't fault this place at all.

Secondly, the car looks great, love the wheels! :D

Lastly, your questions;

Bluetooth: I think you'll find the Bluetooth option is off by default on the RCD 310 (it was for mine), naturally your car must have a Bluetooth Module (usually found under the passenger / driver seat unless it was retro fitted then it might be placed behind the RCD 310) here is a video showing how to turn Bluetooth on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_I7S_JuJIU

Air Con: It could be that the Compressor has packed up, best thing to do is book it in to VW, as it's still under warranty they should pick up the bill for looking at it. I had a similar problem a few weeks ago, booked it in to VW, they run a full diagnostic & full service at no cost to myself. Air Con now works much better than before despite them finding no faults at all, so maybe it just needed a re-gas?

Anyway, hope this is of some help!

Cheers,
Ady

Welcome

Lovely looking car, nice spec and the wheels set it off nicely

As said Bluetooth must be enabled to bring up the BT Audio option on the RCD310.  If you do get it sorted, be aware that when streaming music via bluetooth (BT) you don't get the full menu listing by playlist/artist/song etc, as you do when you connect the iphone/ipod via the MDI cable.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Its defo got the BT option on there, i've just watched some You tube vids on how to do it so i'll have a bash after work, i've got it so its connected, i press play on my phone and nothing comes out either the phone speaker or the car speakers, so guess i need to mess with the volume haha.

Regarding the alloys, i really like them myself, like i said not sure what wheels they are, presume they are aftermarket alloys though and not OEM, seller advertised them as 'R Line alloys', it looks like they are diamond cut/polished on the small lip of each spoke, but will hopefully by a while before they need refurbing.

It says next service is in 8,000 miles or so many days, does this sound about right for long life servicing? two services in 40,000? (only other service was at 19,000) especially for a DSG?....sorry for the odd question but i'm not clued up on long life, my last GTI was on a time and date plan so it pretty much went in for a service the same time every year, interim/full etc

Nice motor Woodstock I'm sure I've seen a pic of those wheels before on a forum members gti never know it might be the same car. I think dsg boxes get serviced at 40000 mile but it should say in your servicing schedule

Yes it would help if i looked in the service book wouldn't it.....all sounds pretty standard then.

Sorted the Bluetooth audio out, pretty simply really.....my bad. :embarrassed:

Thanks for the replies and kind messages, had little play with the sport box late last night...bit of a difference from standard drive

Lovely looking car with some nice mods.  Another forum member had those wheels, also on a black Mk6.
