The "A" Button Reset on wiper arm not working.
« on: 24 November 2014, 13:13 »
Hello Group

Golf MkIV GTI 1800 Turbo, year 2000.

At the weekend I had an interesting thing happen in that the red display of the Average fuel consumption / Average Speed / Distance Driven / Driving Time went blank showing -------- and no number "1" or "2" showing. It was set for "1" and Average Fuel Consumption at the time. I was not pressing any of the buttons at the time, just driving. When I noticed it I tried pressing the "A" and "B" buttons to cycle it but nothing happened.

I stopped the car and turned the ignition off and waited a minute and turned it on again. After pressing the buttons "A" and "B" a few times it started showing the "2" setting but now it will not do a complete reset (holding button in for 2 seconds) nor will it go to 1, it just stays set to 2 which does work.

It would seem that the "A" button is not working at all.

I have removed fuse F11 to reset the display but that achieves nothing.

Any ideas what might be up or solutions to my problem?

Thanks
Chris

could be the stalk itself that is broken, they are known to be fragile on the Mk4
