oil in exhaust?
« on: 15 August 2014, 08:18 »
If my turbo was slightly knackered and leaking some oil...

Could some end up in my exhaust?

It could explain both my slowly disappearing oil, the slight white smoke and the fact my exhaust got quieter a couple of days after putting it on..

Oil burning will be blue/grey smoke and there's no mistaking the smell. White is normally water burning off which can again be your turbo but a small bit is fairly common especially if you have a decat fitted.

Oil can end up in your exhaust if the seals are leaking

if your rings have gone it smoke massively on startup then calm down once the rings have warmed up but will smoke badly under boost due to cylinder pressures increasing. You'll also see oil coming from everywhere as the crank case pressures will increase

whip an intercooler pipe off, that will tell you if the turbo seals are shot, mine literally pi**ed oil out

lots!!!
  • rough idol/hunting
  • turbulence in the vacuum lines (can see on boost gauge... quivers!!)
  • smoke out the rocker like a choo-choo train once up to temp (when you take oil filler cap off)
  • if going down hill in 5th (without accelerator on) at bottom of hill when I accelerate there will be sh!t loads of blue smoke, and if the clutch is pushed in with no throttle the car will cut out
  • when putting car under a bit of load.. especially reversing, it will cut out; ie backing into the drive, as im half way up and I push the clutch in and let off the throttle, it dies
  • giving a few little blips of the throttle when stationary, the car will nearly cut out when you stop blipping
  • occasional random popping when, say, in 3rd not accelerating, then as I put foot on I get a bang... I wanted this but I know its not doing it for the good!!!
  • on both breather filters (have removed catch can and filtered the ends) they are smothered in oil and lots of oil splatter is visible, from the high pressure in the rocker

that's the lot off hand....

I'm always getting the fault code come up....

16795 -  Secondary Air Injection System: Incorrect Flow Detected
                  P0411 - 35-00 -   -

but I have deleted everything and put resistors everywhere.... think I need to test resistors make sure they are all working properly  :undecided:

I did notice something on ross tech website about that fault code... Fuel Pump Relay (J17) faulty
so I need to locate these and have them tested too.

what you recon?!!!!
