Strange one ive been having here. Wondered if anyone had experienced the same?

My MK4 AUM has been having these issues for about a year now becoming more often now.

Basically sometimes when i'm driving along i can see the boot light flicker on the dash. While this is happening the interior lights wont turn on.

At the moment if i give the relay box above the drivers footwell a push with my foot it will go away for a couple of minutes.

A more recent problem is that when i open the drivers door it doesnt sense that this is open. meaning it locks itself and the alarm goes off if the door isnt shut. The same time the rear O/S door lock has stopped unlocking..

I have checked all fuses/relays and the plugs on the CCM are pushed in tight..
I have checked the boot switch to see if the washer has leaked and i have checked the loom going into the boot through the rubber flexiboot..

This is driving me INSANE!!!

Anyone know anything else i could check?

Thanks :)

  • VCDS and VCP - fault codes, coding, VIM activation
Boot light is most likely broken wires in rubber grommet, next to boot hinge.
Driver's door not being sensed open is micro switch or wires in door grommet broken.
Rear lock may be faulty micro switch or mechanical fault in the lock itself.

If you have access to VCDS you can check micro switches without having to take locks out.

As stated above for the boot, check this section...

You may find you have this issue...

If that is fine, I would say that you need a new boot module..

One of these...

As for your doors, sounds like you need new door modules
They look like this..

VW Car history
Mk3 1.8 GL - Silver - 5 door
Mk4 1.8t - Silver - 3 door
Mk4 R32 - Black - 5 door
Mk5 GTi - Black - 5 door
Mk4 R32 - Deep Pearl Blue - 3 door
MK6 2.0 TDI - Graphite Blue - 5 door
MK7 GTD - Solid Black - 5 door
MK6 GTi Edition 35 - Candy White - 3 door

Cheers guys i'll try and find someone with VCDS to check those micro switches.

Are those door lock modules hard to replace because i seem to remember the inside of the doors was a nightmare when i went to replace the electric windows mechanism (which i got a garage to do in the end).

looks like all of these issues are a bad coincidence.... Annoying.

Also good to check the connection on the boot latch for the boot. Another common thing.

Dodgy door module/es will do this. I changed out boot latch and problem remained. Only figured it out by shutting driver door over and over again the warning light went out. Oh and it auto-locked me out the car one day.... :$

I nearly got locked out of mine when it hadn't noticed id opened the drivers door after unlocking.... Lucky the window was open.

Need to get on with it now before the cold weather arrives
