some are, some aren't

my mates 1.6 has a cable but my gttdi has hydraulic, so im guessing the higher models like GTI and GT TDI have hydraulic?

lower models like 1.4 and 1.6 have clutch cable, I know the 1.4 definatly does as when I was stripping mine out I remember having to get a new hydraulic pedal box
Will always love my mk4 but she had to go...225 Quattro TT in its place....but its still black (she lives on in spirit!)

yeah, you should see it coming through the bulkhead into the gearbox, it was obvious on my old mk3 1.6
