Title: keys locked in car??
Post by: stretch85 on 06 March 2011, 14:12
my other half was cleaning the car out and put the keys in the boot, the car doors auto locked and she shut the boot.this is the only key, what should i do???

I had this before, but my keys were in the ignition. I called my breakdown cover and they used wedges in the door and a rod to press the unlock button on the key.

However as yours are in the boot, you'll somehow need to get to the boot. Wedging the door and pressing the unlock button on the door won't work, as the car will be deadlocked.

It may likely that you'll have to 'break in'  :undecided:

you wud be better off breaking the lock than doing anything extreme with a brick. do it the old fashion big hammer a screwdriver break in way.if you can get to the bonnet catch from underneath the front of the car and get the bonnet open sometimes some cars if you disconnect and reconnect battery can affect the central locking to go off. but only on old dodgy cars but worth a try ??

To be honest, more damage would be done to bodywork and locks that way.

Maybe it is best to tape a window up, break it, fold it up as it breaks and get to the boot via folding the rear seat down.

ye cuz popping a lock or breaking into the engine bay is more damage than smashing a window in . ye good one mate ye !!!!  :nerd:he wants the keys back with as little damage and lack of security as possible smashing the sh!t out of a window isnt really the best idea all the weather will get in you can get your stereo nicked the car damp cause a smell. how much for a new window fitted immediately or pop a lock in the boot handle then either replace barrel or fit a boot popper . much cheaper also good excuse to get smoothed boot.

(or a window in ants great idea).lol.  :undecided:

Yeah, it is. With a broken window, all you need to do is replace a window and not have to go through body repair from diving in with a screw driver.

right so wat body panel are we replacing or repairing by popping a boot lock?????? you ent a clue mate wat u doing offering advise??? your the only one suggesting doing the window in. popping a boot lock wont damage any bodywork the locks in the surround of the handle. getting AA like wayne suggested or locksmith is either cheapest or free and best advise or bust the lock is the second less expensive to sort rather than your great idea of smashing the sh!t out of the window. its mess takes time to arrange a fitment of a new one cost involved etc its not worth it not to mention the draw backs of security and lack of it whilst waiting for replacement glass.if i were you i'd stick to the advice on how to live are lives in good moral standing than anything to do with cars. :nerd:

How well the glass is cleaned up, that depends on who replaces your window.

Also you may have missed the part where I said to tape the window up, it reduces the splits inside the door and stops glass from shattering everywhere as the tape holds it together.

It works.

Don't ask me how I know ;)

its all well and good advising somebody to smash the windows in on there car.but even taping up glass you have no guarantee how it breaks and as you can only tape the outside and you are striking it from that side i doubt that tape is gonna hold all the glass when you bash the other side of it threw with a hammer.the glass cud go inside the door like wayne said and rattle around its messy and a ballache, AA ,Auto-Locksmithor some kind of home lock breakage that dnt involve bashing ur windows threw.

how do you suggest breaking the lock? the vw boot is a good design, only way of breaking it is prob with a chisel and hammer to bust the plates, but this WILL dent the boot panel, no way around it.

drivers door is different, you can smash the plastic clip off and get to the latch, but even this way youll prob do damage.

window taped up and hammer is the safest bet and cheapest option. just price up window you decide to smash first. if you tape it up properly then you should be good, sellotape holds very well, done it before and only had a little mess to clean up.

get a 2nd central locking fob made up and keep it in the house, even if you get locked out miles from home just get someone to blip the key into a phone during a phone call and itll unlock your car!

and ive never ever heard of any car opening the locks when you disconnect and reconnect the battery, ever!

ANYONE that knows the MK4 locking system will know that you can't just smash the lock in, you plonker.

You COULD drill through it CAREFULLY and then use a screwdriver to unlock the door mech.

The barrel is £50 though.

Glass, carefully taped with strong tape would be the cheapest option but then you'll have to take the door card off, then the entire CL/EW panel off for a good hoover up.

Or call a locksmith.

As for the boot

Break it through with a screwdriver and you won't get in.

You'd have to take the handle out and damage the panel, a lot.

there nothing wrong with the wheel choice or fitment mate its the fact the coilover adjuster catches if it was on different suspension it wud be fine.you have to make things fit when you modify.it's something that can be sorted. if you need to drive your car somewhere then smashing glass isnt a good idea as you car is unsecure and not weather proof.breaking into it or having a locksmith is the best option. then you have no mess not door to strip and vac up broken glass no worrying if the car will still be there the next day cuz u have a f**king massive gap covered by a bin liner or sh!tty plastic untill you can get a replacement window.he probly got his keys back by now anyway so i wudnt really stress your little head over it .

oh don't all coilovers have adjustment collars? and it the wheels catch, I'd say it was a fitment issue wouldn't you? if you had different suspension ie non coilover you do realise that the springs tend to be wider on shocks and spring combos?

either way you're wrong, smashing a lock isn't the best option and the wheels dont fit you're car.

lol, im an 8v owner and im willing to admit this is bull.
im also an ex 16v owner and im willing to admit that they are bull, why have an engine that needs to reved past 4500rmp to be any good
8v feels like she has more torque even though it doesnt.

and mk3s are pants. unless its a derv

sell the mk4, buy a mk3 gti, lock the keys in the boot of that one, smash it to bits with said brick. remove engine, place it in a mk2 and forget about all your worrys cos it takes about 30 seconds to break into a mk2 with out any damage

naaaar mate. the facts are clear, nearly identical car weights, the 16v has more torque and more power than the 8v, so clearly the 8v is quicker

Well the clear facts for me were that every 8 valve I drove was gutless compared to my 16v. And every 8v who tried to have me at the lights lost. Those were the facts for me.

ye they easy to break into cuz they ugly and nobody thought it was worth making them that secure. mk4 is better looking than mk3 also. the only good thing and why people like older cars is cuz there lighter generally and therefore you need a less impressive amount of power and time and money put into them to match performance of some newer cars. personally i find old cars tinny and they fall apart. mk4 onward much sturdier car solidly built and the feel when you driver shows that. some mk2's with g60 arches slammed look good but most look like something a geography teacher wud drive.if you a purist golf owner then go for the original mk1 for a project but skip the 2 and 3 when it comes to a daily.IMO.

When you can have a conversation without insults, come back and chat with the adults.

No 8v golf would beat my Corvette. It can do corners, the chassis and suspension is stiff as. It's not heavy, it's 1.4 tons and I've had plenty of barry boys trying it on from the lights with epic failure.

You have obviously no knowledge of what you say, so stay out of it.

8v has more torque though.

Only for about 1.5 seconds.

My Corvette has the most torque.
ooo my corvette has the most!!!! wat a dick!!!! your comparing a 8v golf to a corvette!!!! thats like bragging that your ferrari is quicker than your nans daewoo matiz!!!! why name drop a vette anyway there sh!t heavy and cant do corners.they got stupid size engines and sh!t loads of power and still struggle to do 60 in under 6 seconds. the 8v golf wud probly piss all over a 1985 vette

I can name drop my Corvette, because I can ;)

It doesn't struggle to do anything. It is faster than an 8v Golf and it's not as you say, sh!t heavy. And infact it's very very good at cornering, the chassis and suspension is extremely stiff. I laugh at people like you that say this sort of thing about American cars, as you people have never 1, owned one, 2, driven one or even 3, been in one.

You really do not know what you talk about, anywhere on this forum.

When you can have a conversation without all of the insults, come back and chat with the adults, boy ;)

it ent me who locked the keys in the car mate. im wise enough not to only have one key for my cars. and i wudnt smash a car in either . got the wrong guy there mate. there nothing wrong with my childhood either it was great thanks bud. wat part of saying his corvette has more torque than an 8v golf was a joke or even mildly amusing? thats my point it has got more torque so he werent even being sarcastic. thats why i said wat i did as its obvious 'i have a corvette' situation. and the fact he used a muscle car as an example against a old vw golf .lol.

i got stick for a car i got it that condition as a part ex. i stated then and will again now that the golf then with those white wheels wasnt my doing and has since had plenty of good remarks and it was more the fact the centre caps wasnt white that people took piss for. it dnt bother me thats nothing to do with me and abit worn out now chuffer! and i mention ages ago cars i had owned as people like u mocked the way the mk4 looked and i said what cars i got in response not dropping them for attention and the cars i had are much better then this clowns corvette.i got stick so pointed out that it werent the only car i had there a difference. i dnt look for approval or want a pat on the back for owning a corvette and boasting how great it is when it clearly more torque than a golf .

Whoa whoa whoa there boy. Calm down. You're not angry? Look at you! You're all jumped up, swearing, being grumpy and unreasonable over one mention of a Corvette, which lets face it is better than your car with smashed in locks, wheels and suspension that do not fit.

Just take a break for a while, make a cuppa, sit outdoors for a bit and chill.

Just calm down boy. Take a break from the forum if you can't put a sentence together properly without swearing.

I'm not at all surprised that it would take you a long time to do something which other people can do easily in an instant. It's called having brains and knowing how to use them, thinking before you and whilst you type, something that you've demonstrated a lack of.

I'm not at all surprised that it would take you a long time to do something which other people can do easily in an instant. It's called having brains and knowing how to use them, thinking before you and whilst you type, something that you've demonstrated a lack of.
well kind sir we are not all hertfordshire prime educated people.lol. i fail to see how you have anymore ability mentally then i do.you after all bought and imaginary 1985 corvette rust bucket and several vehicles you don't have or posess pictures of. you say you dont need to prove nothing but really it's because you can't.

As of now, I'm considering it closed. I'm done with ill tempered thick children with borrowed cars with wheels and suspension that don't fit and who can't spell or make any sense.

Laters!
