Im still a regular on AON as my last car was an Astra and was quite impressed by this write up. Its a detailing/project that someone has done over 3 months or so. Shame he didnt have the sense to do it to an Edition 30 GTI

Also I have a Black Edition 30 GTI, can anyone point me in the correct direction of what products I should be using to keep it looking sweet. Basically I use, well basic cheap stuff atm...

Had a quick read at some guides...this is the list so far...

Sheepskin Mitt (any particular type?)
2 Buckets (can I get any standard buckets?)
Shampoo (Any Reccomendations?)
Sonus Der Wunder Drying Towel

Bilt Hambler auto wash is very good according to Guy.

2 regular buckets will do but ones with grit guards are better!

Buy yourselF a cheap orbital Polisher. I promise you. It is amazing compared to hand polish.

Sheepskin Mitt (any particular type?) Meguiars is ok, Just dont wash it too hot as it falls apart. Dont use it on the wheels, use something else.
2 Buckets (can I get any standard buckets?) Try and get light coloured as you can see bits in the bottom easier. Grit Guards can be ordered seperately on eBay.
Shampoo (Any Reccomendations?) NXT Tech Wash, or Gold class shampoo are ok, I buy Meguairs Hyper wash in bulk now, using it in a Gilmour Foamaster 2.  Sonus Der Wunder Drying Towel. I prefer a miracle dryer

Also try and get a 24 pack of microfibre towels if you can, Costco do them for about a tenner. They are so useful.

Try not to drop the MF cloths or mitt on the floor as they will grip onto bits and scratch your paintwork. Clean them in the washing machine on 60 degree wash DONT use fabric softener. Dont buy a water blade, they scratch your paint very easily.

What can I say, Ive never cared enough about a car until I got the GTI

Just need 2 Decent light coloured buckets now and im on my way...will most likely add new bits of car care products on a regular basis now, thanks for the help everyone

If it gets too dirty, use some kind of pre-wash.  Diluted bug squash, snow foam, that kind of thing would be good.  Idea is to get the paintwork as clean as you can before you actually start to apply any kind of hand jobs..
