What's normal play in front wiper mechanism?
« on: 15 March 2021, 11:09 »
Just wanted to find out if anybody else has had this experience with their wiper arms before I bring it up at my year two service in a couple of weeks’ time.

I noticed that when on full speed my drivers wiper blade/arm are virtually touching the A pillar, then when I had the arms in the service position and lifted them up of off the screen (during a wash) they seemed to move such that when I put them back down they were now sitting on the A pillar!

There seems to be quite a bit of play in the mechanism which I’m not used to compared to my previous Golfs over the years.

Most wiper mechanisms are pretty basic and haven’t changed much so I just wondered if this was normal for a Mk7 or where any of the play would be?

Currently it doesn’t seem to be causing a problem but I would hate for it to give up when on full-speed on the motorway.

Might be worth checking the wiper blade sizes to see if they're correct?. I have these Bosch wipers on mine:

Bosch A864S Aerotwin Wiperblade Set, 650/450 mm

Still the on the originals from new.

I'll raise it at the service in a few weeks to see whether it's 'normal'.
