Hi Steve, welcome to the site, our resident VR6 expert will be sure to help with many of your question, however I am sure he will be the first to tell you that one of the first mods you will need to do is to uprate the suspension, to lose the "barge-like" handling that is its only real downfall.

It really depends on how old a car you are prepered to go for, and what sort of driving you want to do. You could pick up a 10 year old VR6 for that which will give you plenty of power and speed, but is not the most nimble of cars, or you could shop around for a good modified mk2 with a VR6 engine transplant, or a G60 for less, that should provide loads of fun and speed and handle a lot better, or even a mint mk1 with a bit of change left over, that on the right roads, will give you a huge grin factor.

Welcome to the forum mate.
Eddy from the uk-mkivs forum has his modified mk4 1.8T up on ebay at the moment, bidding is at ?3700 right now but he's said the reserve is ?5000.

although not mint, or low mileage, you did ask which was the quickest  ;)

hi steve,   welcome to the site

im extremely mark 1 biased.  if u want a real, basic, fun, fast car u cant go wrong with a modded mark 1.

but its gonna depend what ur using it for,  i wouldnt want to commute in one everyday  :-X

the vr6 is amazing if its been shrunk a bit, had a few goes in one now and definately gave me something to dream about.  still shame about the looks tho  :P
