hi there
i was in the same situation about 6 months ago myself,i was swaying towards the gti side as i assumed it would be quick enough for me as i,d previously owned a mk2 16v,however after driving a few i discovered that they really didn,t impress me power ways, they were nippy down low but the grunt soon disappeared at mid range,i then decided that i might go for a vr6 and had a test drive in one, which as soon as i drove i had to have,so i bought it.the thing which makes the vr6 the best buy for me is the 6cylinder note off it,pure lethal, and very smooth, also it really does pull veryvery
well.i was so close to buying a gti but am so glad i held out for something a little bit more special. The down side is the insurance is more expensive.i,m 33 and am paying 800quid fully comp, which i,m quite happy with, also its ok on petrol, certainly if u put the boot down it,ll be thirsty, but compared to a renault laguna i also have its much cheaper to run.also i reckon a vr6 will hold its value a lot better.my advice is to get a run in a vr6 before u rush out to buy a gti.
let me know how u get on there m8.
