Title: Hidden storage MK 7.5
Post by: DTX3 on 07 January 2019, 09:37
So after almost a year and a half I'm still finding new things. You may or may not be aware but under the driver and passengers seats sits a little draw. Great for hiding 'things' . Its also carpeted.

Oh really? I got my GTI on a 67 plate. So anything after, they were removed?

Yeah noted elsewhere on here they removed them in early 2018...

These used to be a Mk7 fave.... all sorts of stuff you can put in them... I favour McVities Jamaican ginger cake

I've still not found anything that I regularly carry that fits. I was hoping the service pack would fit but even that doesn't

Since not having them, I haven't ever thought I wish I had them! I don't even think I've ever used the little storage box on the drivers side yet.

Well under the passenger seat I have a spare pair of glasses (in it's hard case) and the wife's spare sunglasses and my VCDS cable.

Under the drivers one I have my digital tyre pressure gauge and digital tyre tread depth gauge, along with a VW touch up stick, a small pad and some pens.

I find them largely useless, not so much as they are an awkward size (they are) but because I forget about them completely, so though I have microfibres and a few other bits stuffed in them, I only remember when I’ve got some from elsewhere. D’oh! I wouldn’t miss them if they were gone.

I haven't opened mine in about 12 months. Don't know if there's anything in there or not.

Hope I remember to check before I hand the car back. :undecided:

Same, I had them in my first 7.5 and was like, ah these are great, then forgot about the stuff I put in there until I handed the car back. When my current one arrived and found out via the forum it didn't have them I was a bit annoyed. 7 months later I definitely have missed or even thought about them.

I also find them pretty pointless.
I dislike having anything in any of the cubbyholes as they just tend to rattle and piss me off.
My cars interior is completely devoid of clutter.
Not counting the wife.

Agree all this^. Had an irritating rattle in mine, eventually identified as a fob i’d put in cubbyhole.

Well I for one like them so there..  :P :P

Seriously, It wouldn't have been so bad it VW had put a simple blanking piece over where the drawer went to finish off the seats, but without that or the drawer itself, the seats just looked unfinished to me.

The blanking piece and its fitting probably would have cost them as much as the drawers...

I don't believe that Fred. On my wife's first Polo Blue GT (2013) , that didn't come fitted with the under drawer seats that she'd been used to on her original Polo 6R (2011), which i subsequently retro-fitted, and the area where ther drawers would have gone was just covered by a simple piece of moulded plastic that attached by a lug on one side into the side trim and a single screw that wnet into one of the pre drilled holes under the seat, and just finihsed the area off (and that was on a Polo). The whole thing must have cost VW pennies.

The Golf Drawers are quite a pice of work when you get them out so I can't believe a simple trim piece would have cost anything like as much.

Maybe not, but on the other hand, the accountants had already deleted the plastic covers on the ISOFIX mounts and the door mirror screws on the first Mk7.5's.... there is no end to the euro cents they will try to save...

I can't believe the OP didn't know it was there.

I'm not one for clutter, and the drawers are pretty useless, but they are a good place for supermarket bags. How often have you popped in for a few bits and had to buy another bag?

I know right! Wasn't until I was adjusting the seat I found it. I wonder if my MK5 had this too?

Such a good idea with the shopping bags.

I think the drawers were a rarely specced option on the mk5 (going from my dodgy memory as neither of mine had them that I remember but my mk6’s did as standard)

The drawers are quite handy for hiding clutter but too small as others have said.

I think you’re right Mr Ex.  They were standard on my mk6 but I vaguely recall speccing them on my second mk5 GTI.  Waste of money that was!  Then they give them to you for free on the mk6 when you don’t want them!

My early Mk5 definitely didn't have the drawers under the seats.

My 2006 MK5 GT TDI did, but that had full leather so don't know if it was part of that ?

My early Mk5 definitely didn't have the drawers under the seats.
Mine neither but at least it had a proper trim not just a gaping hole.
At least I think it did!

The seats, dials and steering wheel were just sublime in the mk5, small details like drawers were just peripheral and inconsequential.

If I had under seat drawers, I would have to think of something to put in them......

+1  this is what I use one for, the other holds CD's in cardboard sleeves to avoid the distracting rattles.

The 1990s have called for you Preztel, they want their CDs back!

I can live with the simplicity of the 1990's. After a long day sometimes it's easier to just push a CD in the slot rather than navigate an iPod or phone. Either that or listen to the BBC light program.
