Hi, had a quote for £299 for the two services, does this sound right?
Cost of a VW 2 year service plan on the VW website is £296.82 - either as a one-off payment or spread over 18 months at £16.49 per month. This is for cars up to one year old and the price includes one minor and one major service. If you don’t have the service plan, VW fixed price service costs are £179 for a minor service and £349 for a major service (total £538) - those service prices are for cars 3-15 years old, but in reality I doubt VW charge different prices for cars newer than 3 years old.
Thanks, I have just checked and it was £199 after all, thats not bad but £500 gap is it worth paying the extra premium/ better cover?
If you’ve been quoted £199 for the first two services, that sounds good value. Presumably that’s a dealer’s own service plan rather than VW’s. As others have said, don’t buy VW’s GAP cover at £500; that’s a ridiculously expensive price. They’ll be applying a massive commission mark up to their supplying insurer’s net price to arrive at that figure. There cheaper alternatives out there; try ALA, Direct GAP or GAP insurance 123 - there are lots of others too.
I’ve used ALA and they have a price match guarantee. Discount / promotional code MSE25 will get you 25% off their screen prices. I see from ALA’s website that they don’t currently have a vehicle replacement plus product, so may be worth trying one of the many other GAP insurance providers.
