Mk2 Caddy pickup - Twin turbo MTDI swap
« on: 12 November 2013, 10:58 »
Well this isn't going to be a build thread, more so documenting the mtdi build in the work van.

So it's been a while since I've been on here, most recent car I've been driving was a 5 series E39 which i picked up for £150 and dropped a new lump in, then smashed it into a barrier.

So I picked up this mk2 caddy pickup for £200 as an mot failure, can't really call it a vw as it's just a skoda felicia.. odd setup!

The mot failure was rust, these things love it, main place was sills and arches.

So I chopped the sills out and made new jacking points as you can't get replacement panels for these now.

Welded the turrets also

Flew through mot, did 500 miles to London and back then blew the pump seals

No point fixing the gash sdi lump, wanted to mtdi it anyway

Picked up an AHU from a mk3 golf for pennies

Thought I might as well do all the gaskets while it's out, so cleaned all the carbon up (haven't got a picture of after, skim)

Essentially it's all back together until my 300tdi pump gets delivered then can get it all timed up and start on making my exhaust manifold.

I'm aiming for 250bhp and around 400ft/lbs which is easily done.

Thanks bud.

300tdi pump came today, machined out the bracket and got it bolted up.

Haven't really had much time to work on this at the moment with working on the new site for SS and working on these the past few weeks ready for launch!

I've decided to go down the twin turbo route rather then the compound setup, no reason.. more work, just purely to see how it goes, going to crack on with the manifold in the next week or two.

Like i say haven't had much time to work on this, but i swapped all the delivery valves from the TDI injection pump over to the 300tdi so the injector lines are all matched, going to mill down the landy hub to match the sdi pulley so i can better adjust the timing. Gearbox and clutch coming this week so i can get the engine in and measured up for the exhaust manifold.

Chopped the front end off and braced it up, no room to work with the stock felicia fronts!

Oh forgot to add i've modified the stock lower arms to accept MK3 golf ball joints & hubs, with seat ibiza front struts and BMW E36 solid adjustable top mounts - the MK3 golf hubs allow me to keep the tie arms as level as possible to avoid bump steer when lowered - MK4 golf rear coil overs and 280mm brakes all round.
