The Moon
« on: 25 February 2012, 18:19 »
Now I'm no expert photographer, but I thought these were pretty good, considering that the object is 238857 miles away and taken with my iPhone!

I took them through my Meade 14" telescope.

Going to try and get some of Jupiter and Saturn which are also out tonight.

How good is the telescope?

A friend of mine did the same, iPhone to telescope:

2nd February. A wander around Wokingham and breakfast in Costa. A drive to mums and Shepherd's Pie for dinner. Messed with Pete's telescope and shot this. by NickJonesMedia, on Flickr

And this is what my brother shot with his Canon 7D and an EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM  which he borrowed:

Jesus Christ! Just looked up the cost of them!

I was gonna buy a spotting scope to use with my compact camera so I could digiscope but the cost of decent glass means I might was well buy a dSLR with a super-duper-telephoto lens. Would be cheaper!

Take a look at the two shots I posted, one taken with iPhone and a telescope, the other with a Canon 7D and a Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM worth £1500 ish.

That's kinda what you need to take these shots, but you couldn't use the Canon combo for just 'scoping the sky.
