Title: porsche brakes on a mk4
Post by: jonnyturbo on 08 April 2011, 20:43
As above what Porsche model do I need to salvage brakes from and what is needed to convert them to fit on a mk4 golf. I know Dave off ukmivs is the bracket man but does he refurb them ? Thanks

u need boster s fronts only or lcr front

ave just had mine refurbished by the brake caliper company 120 quid was a friggin awesome job...

brackets for the boxster s only avaible through dave b creation only do the mk5 brackets and the porsche rears.

think dave still ont he scene he does the brackets lines and discs for 300

I believe Porsche 966 brakes will work on the mk4.

i had the boxster s rears on my there were absolutely shyte pistons dont match the master cylinder there too small and too much fade

the LCR and the boxster S Fronts are the same pistons and are more suited to the mk4 master cylinder, you get a oem pedal feel and no fade unlike the boxster s rears.

am running a 365mm disc with the LCR brakes ferroodo pads and the stopping power is basically a toe curl.

do any of the evo brembo's fit the mk4

I'm guessing not as they're 4wd and the mk4 isn't?

They are indeed they are aparently 'ok' brakes a lot of the guys on seatcupra.net are running uprated pads and standards ones are sh!te.. and uprated hoses and disks.. DS2500 pads seems to be highest rated..

Bob the porsches are prices but they dont wear out so fast as the all uprated can even get ceramic pads   and they much better over standard brakes.. plus im gona need them soon

Coxster S rears are sh!te because the pistons are tiny compared to the coxster s fronts.. from what ive read though any porsche callipers can be made to fit all you need is the adaptors and hoses..

u do know if u use a boxser S FRONT with a 312mm disc u wll about 5 mm of pad over hang which will eventually which forms a ridge on the pad and can break off in chunks when hot besides that its a MOT fail you need a 330 disc

get the disc from a mg zt 2.5 v6 and then u need them redrilled at 5 x 100 google crn products they do it including redrilling for 120

how big are the pistons on the Boxster S front calipers and rear calipers? Ive seen alot of people using the 3.2 S rear calipers with no issues.

Cheers for that i have heard about the overhang and read threads on ukmkiv's and none of them have had MOT fail as someone bought it up in a thread i will take my chances.. I cant afford the cost of replacint 330 discs !!

No it's meters!

Nad - was asking for the piston sizes both front and rear, so didnt know if you was quoting the front mm size of the rear.

Fookin big stoppers your running if they are meters, did 18" wheels fit over the brakes.lol

i know sorry i was just takign the wee wee..

fronts are 36 and 40 mm am pretty sure you gotto to reverse the connector pipes over though as these are mounted at the front of the wheel as appose to the back of the wheel on porsches if you see what i mean otherwise your pads will be f**ked..

best way to do is to put them on the floor next to each other and just diagonally swap the bottom left pipe with top right nipples and top bottom right pipe with top left nipples then your good to go ..

best off to get a 11mm bleed spanner too it basically stops the nipples from rounding....

Here comes a dispute am sure but porsche calipers on golf mk4s are a completely head f**k  lots of peopel due to putting the calipers on the front of the wheel  and changing pistons over end up with squeeky pads mine drove me mad, and this is isnt with cheap pads its with ALL PADS i tried 10 diff sets and the squeak me and Dave B figured was due to crossing the pipes which has to be done anyway....

then theres the discs which are only available in 5 x 100 if they are custom drilled, theres also no disc screw in them so when you change your wheel its a pain in the arse lining the disc spacer and wheel ups for the bolt to go through, unless you have a post, then your faffing about crossing caliper pipes over and using spacers to space the calipers, just cudnt be arsed...

apaprantly these work with 312s but the whole point of big brakes is to get the best of the brakes so running boxster fronts with 312 discs and having 10mm pad over hang is hardly a great Big Brake upgrade not to mention to run them you need tiny spacers made to space the caliper out and then you need longer caliper bolts its just a total pain in the arse.... whats the point???.....

am sure peopel will differ i respect that i dont wanna start world war 3 so tech before you jump on this thread am just giving my opinion  although the same problems have been discussed on various other forums

these are more available though, you can get the discs all day long pads all day long plus there proven to work as there off a leon cupra by factory,

i also got them refurbed in a slightly different red which is a bit orangy but stands out its a straight through colour whichlooks the lickkkkkkkkkkkk i did the rears with today aswell, i did however put the decal on the wrong way am pretty sure iys supposed to read from bottom to top on both calipers, having said that the alpha we  have says alpha on its brembos bottom to op on passenger side and top to bottom on drivers and there factory made brembos

i forgot to add another plus of the cupra ones are that you dotn need any spacers my wheels clear the calipers by about 4mm they do ertrude out quite a lot so am guessign it depends ont he wheel too.

You are very true mate.. And have read many discussions and lots of forums about this.. You are right the cupra brakes are the best bet but are a lot more expensive than the porsche ones ive seen sets on ebay for £500 without braided hoses and pads etc.. I know running the 312mm disks is not ideal as you get 5mm pad overhang which may break off over time but the jump in price from 312 to 323 or 330 discs is a lot of money for in my eyes cant see much difference in 10mm ??

Are yours cupra r brakes bud ?? Also what pads you running ??

Title: Re: porsche brakes on a mk4
Post by: nadlad on 14 April 2011, 00:41

yeah there cupra r 225  brembos
brembo discs or ebc and the drilled n grooves are the right way accordign to the manufacturer
am using ferrodo pads
hell braided lines

Get your hell lines direct from hell there 33 quid delivered just tell them golf mk4 fitment to brembo calipers online there 65 delivered everywhere

ave got another set of discs which are 356mm along with a spacer kit that will enable me to run the 356mm disk on this same setup but i just wanted to see how the 323 are and there feckign awesome....

cupra r brembos go for more as there are a lot harder to get hold of then porsche calipers.

one think i like about the LCR brembos is that as they are 2 piece theres them 4 big f**k off bolt holds one side to the other through the calipers  they make em look beefy whereas the  Porsche ones are monoblock calipers

think im gonna end up sticking these Boxster 3.2s rears on mine with the 312mm disc's. I aint fussed about a bit of brake fade, it cant be that bad if many people run them.

Nad - your brakes do look well sat behind the wheels. Did you get the brembo's refurbed at Godspeed? They do the colour or did you pick it?

Cheers for help on hell lines.. Where did you get your adaptors and how much mate ?? I do fancy running bigger discs but might aswell get adaptors for 312 and then get Spacers for 330 once I've killed these discs..

Ferrodo seem the way forward where you get yours from ??

i got mine off the guy who broke his cupra r 225 they came with

He also gave me the complete rear setup too which were 256 calipers, carriers,  discs and pads so straight bolt on kit

All for a measly £280.00 clearly didnt know what he was selling..

i then sold my existing vrs 312 fronts and 256 rears for 350.00 LOL
