Hi guys i need some help please, i have had a problem when i went somewhere to have my car re-mapped, basicly my turbo blew and the  in the end result has killed no 4 piston/conrod. Soooo i need a new engine and turbo.  Is it good practice when re-mapping a vehicle which is hot to have a form of fan blowing cold air into the air intake to stop the turbo from getting too hot.

any repsonse would be great as i am in a bit of trouble.

many thanks

Hello m8!

Sorry to hear you bad news. :embarassed:  Most compaines will get you to sign a disclaimer.

The fan is there to keep the cooloing rad cool and cool the charge air, but it is very hard to get a good air flow in to the intercooler the more cooler air the better.  TDI turbos blow all day long on the dyno afer a remap. A remap will show up weak components like your turbo, sometimes they blow clouds of white smoke or they just explode internally.
Good practice is to check Oil and water, give car a road test to feel for faults do a few full load runs low rpm and few higher RPM runs at lower load just to get a feel for the car.

At what RPM and load did the turbo let go? how many power runs prior to the last run did you have? Was it a custom remap or generic remap.

SuziGTI used a very good TDI tuning company and her turbo still let go just after the remap.  The Tuner PSI bent over backwards to help her out and get here up and running again so credit where it is due.

Cheers for the reply.

there was no fan used, me and my mate was upstairs speaking to another guy while the car was put on the ramp, i do not if the oil and coolant was checked, there was no road test done the car had just come from surrey to slough on the m25 with no probelms, there was one run done which i did not see, which showed 139 bhp, and then a second run do bout 10-15mins later, during this run a small popping noise was heard and then the guy backed off and turned it off, he then said give it a run up the road, he started it up and when moving it off the rolling road some white smoke came out the back, and a rattle started occuring before we could do anything the engine stopped and that was that, it has hydraulic-ed and bent no 4 conrod.

The car stopped at idle but i suppose it went while he was doing the second run???

Was the first run at 139bhp standard or remapped?

Its a hard one to call m8!

Turbo seals could have blew and filled the bores with oil, but what could have caused them to fail? Too much boost, or another faulty part boost controller or the turbo was just on its last legs and the remap finished it off.  Or turbo over spooling to hold extra boost which could be due to a boost leal from a split pipe or loose clip.

Or the VVT had stuck and the higher boost from the remap freed it up and made the vains adjust at a very high centrifugal rate which can stall the turbo and snap the shaft.

If is was a generic remap then I doubt it was due to poor mapping, If it was a custom remap then you could bring poor mapping in to play.

Did you research the company?
