Sealing wheels with a satin finish
« on: 05 August 2015, 13:45 »
Hi all,

I'm just about to put a new set of BBS SR rims on the car and was looking to seal them prior to fitting.

They are the 'Himalayan Grey' which is quite dark and is a satin finish.

What's the best thing to seal them with without making the satin fiish look like a really badly sprayed/patchy satin/gloss finish?

TIA.

Ta - I'm getting the tyres put on at a place which (I think) stocks poorboys - happy coincidence!

+1 for Booty recommendation, it's the only wheel sealant I ever use, better to layer it than put too much on as it can be hard work if applied too thickly IMO.

A couple of layers of poorboys and you won't go wrong, makes cleaning them a doddle. Easy to apply and layer up.

So just apply a layer, then buff it off and repeat as necessary?

Yep, apply a thin layer, and leave it 5 mins until it has a bit of bite or resistance to a finger rub, then thoroughly buff off.  Avoid leaving it baking in the sun, as it can be hard work to remove if it has been left on too long or baked on.  Don't use too much and avoid getting in the bolt recesses as it can be fiddly to get out and it's very pink!!  Otherwise it's a doddle.

Then do it all again, and maybe again!

Don't forget to post some pics of your new, and newly sealed wheels.
