Servicing cost

I’ve called some main dealers to get a price for a major service. To my surprise, they all quote the same £354. This hasn’t been the case with other marques I’ve owned, where dealers will in some cases price match specialist independents or negotiate.
Is this the typical VW experience?

If you get a price in writing (from website or physically) they will price match. The other thing to keep an eye out for is when they do an offer on a minor & major service (last one was Black Friday) where the costs were cheaper than my local independent.

I'd find it much more annoying if main dealers didn't quote the same price for the same service!

Although I just remembered, last main dealer service, the price didn't line up with these:

"oh, not all dealers are part of that offer"
"it doesn't say that anywhere"
"we'll match that price then"

They always try it on! It worries me that people will just pay it without asking questions either.

Oh definitely, I've done the "work from a comfortable office space whilst we service your car thing" a couple of times and the things you get to overhear

Halfords claim to do a ‘manufacturer spec’ service via their website. Online they also claim to provide a written quote if asked. I’ve now asked 3 of them without success. The forth gave a quote but VW insist they provide part numbers for the filters and spec and manufacturer for the oil and plugs.
Both companies make bold statements via their websites but seem to make it as difficult as possible to cal them out on what they offer.

Very disappointing
