Golf MK4 Central Locking Control Module (1co 959 799 b)

Hi all,
I'm hoping someone may have advice for me. My Mk4 GTis Central Locking Control Module recently went wallop so I lost all the associated controls.
I got a replacement unit part no. 1co 959 799 b from a breaker. Everything is back working except the central locking (and possibly the alarm/immobiliser).
I assume it needs to be reprogrammed, is this possible? Or do I need to to get a new replacement unit from VW.
