Really useful that, well done for posting it up.
Even a technical incompetent like me can almost make sense of that!!!

Maybe a good idea to copy this thread into the Maintenance and Tips section or if Jimble could move it so it stays nice and visible and can be added to as people discover new things.

I cannot get my SD card working at all. I have a mixture of mp3's and m4a's, the structure is right, amde sure each top level folder has less than 1000 files in it. Tried the card in NTFS and exFAT format (both slow and fast formatting). The card won't recognise a thing. Put a mixture of the same files on a USB stick and that won't work either, although my original USB stick out of the Scirocco works in the car, only recognising the mp3's on it and not recognising the folder contents for an album folder that contains m4a's.

Has anyone else had issues with m4a's not being recognised in their Golf?
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

MajorKhan - if still looking for a card I got one of these which might be a bit OTT in spec for plain audio files but works fine in my new GTI - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/32GB-32G-SANDISK-EXTREME-HD-SDHC-SD-HC-CLASS-10-45MB-S-MEMORY-CARD-RETAIL-PACK-/390643680548

My mac didn't want to play using terminal, so I used a piece of software called Blue Harvest to scrub the SD card of the 'invisible' files which show up on the screen in the car. Worked a treat.

I followed the how to but neither exfat nor ntfs worked, car just reported 'sd card not recognised', tried both quick and full formatting. So downloaded the 'official' sd card formatting program from here: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/ and formatted the card with the default settings, resulting in fat32 card. Works in the car fine. Card is £8 16gb class 4 card from amazon.

I'll prob need some help with this. What size card you use as a minimum?

Say for 40 albums/500 average tracks?
