My brothers driver's window never worked from when he bought the car (2 years ago!). You could hear the motor clicking but nothing moved. We had a look and the cables were all tangled up, fallen off the pulleys, and the window clips were damaged and hanging off the rails too
I bought him a new mech and we set about it at the weekend
Stripped it all out
Forgot to test the motorRebuilt the mech and refitted it to find it still didn't work
Stripped it all out again and inspected the motor to find the bushes were all molten and mangled up
Phone call to VW........... £270 on special order
Brilliant
Couple more phone calls, one lump of wood and a mission to some breakers in Wisbech
Eventually found one for £10
Fitted it all back together with my eyes closed
