Title: H5 LRW - Story do far......
Post by: LRWmotorsport on 16 November 2016, 11:26
After picking up the Clubsport last weekend it got me thinking about the cars I've had my number plate on and thought I'd put together a bit of a potted history.
Not expecting anyone to be overly interested just something to put out there.

The original H5 LRW, replacing my Alpine white MK2 CL

Was convinced to buy the MK4 in 2005 by the incarnation of Mrs LRWmotorsport at the time. It was the under powered 2.0 version. Big mistake but allowed me to take the MK2 on track.

Golf GTI Championship was announced late 2006. 8v was built to spec.

Last race for the red 8v, collected at Coram, spin and win from the back of the grid, October 2012

Bit of road car history missing pictorially here.
MK4 went in favor of 2.0 16v Corrado in Red.
Relocation to Cheshire saw the demise of the Rado and welcome to MK GTI 150 diesel that promptly ate two tappets

MK4 GTI was replaced with a proper car:

Black co-part bargain replaced the red MK2 on track

Finished item

Corrado had to go for practical reasons. I think Ken Lark is riding round with bits of it.
The only non-VW vehicle on the LRWmotorsport fleet

Ordered in August 2015 to make up for not having time to commit to a full seasons racing in 2016
Golf GTI Edition 40 Clubsport, fittingly the 7th vehicle to wear the plate and one it will be staying on for a long time.
The car is awesome.

Your Ed40 Clubsport looks great, but I think my favourite is your red mk2; the car I always should have bought myself in the 80's, but youthfulness steered me towards the Ford equivalent

I have to agree out of all of them there was something special about that car.
In glorious hindsight I regret racing it now. Should have put it in the garage and brought it out in the summer.
At the time I'd been building and setting up race cars for other people and saw what at the appeared the only way to have a pedal myself.

I've developed a bit of an attachment to the Ed40 already, the GTI & PP are lovely cars but it feels a bit special to me. Probably has a lot to do with the first "special" VW I've owned and @34 the first new car I've ever driven off the forecourt.
