So I have had three sessions on the golf now, now a few hours at a time, but making progress. So far I have taken both doors off and stripped them down. Taken all the seats and carpets out. Stripped the back out. Taken the bumpers lights and grill off, and started stripping the engine bay ready for engine removal. Here's a load of photos for you to enjoy.

all original glass apart from the drivers window.

these speakers have been fitted, to fit them someone has cut the doors, so will have to repair the doors and get new door cards.

This is the runner between the two pieces of glass in the drivers door, I think that this rust may be a link to the non-original glass inn the drivers door.

in two minds wheather or not to keep these.

Are these pin stipes original?

thats as far as I've got. comments welcome.

thanks for looking

Alright bud! Yah as tempting as it is to mod it. It's going to be as close to original as I can get it. I wouldn't mind finding another mk1 to put an abf in. But I feel this car should stay a 1.1.

i think all this will need is some period wheels and a 40mm drop nothing flashy. loved my old mk1s, they look awesome without the bumpers too!

I have two spare original steels. I want too get two more and get them banded so I can put those on and also still have the originals. I think I'm also going to rebuild the original shocks and springs and also buy buy come coil overs, so I can have it original or modded a little bit.

Great to see a fresh mk1 project on here.

Good find.  Was getting really excited when i started going through the thread and saw a really solid car but then those last few pics........

Still, overall it's pretty damn straight and a good little car.  Look toward to more of this.  P.S. I don't think the pinstripe is original.

cheers. Yes it needs a bit of bodywork, but nothing I cant handle. its a slow project lol. just collecting panels at the minute and shot blasting the drive train parts for powder coating. I will try and get some new pictures up at the weekend.

Little update. Engine is out, and so is most of the drive train, its nearly a bare shell. I have also started shot blasting. I'll let the pictures do the talking.

So after stopping this project for two years I'm back! I bought a house so had no money or motivation, but now I do, kind of. So here's a little update.

Since you last saw arny I've taken out the glass, dash and loom. I've cut the front valance off and test fitted the new one, and currently I'm cleaning up the engine bay and front inner wings.

There should now be a weekly update on this build.

Cheers!!
