Mark: Where did you get those excellent workshop procedures? It doesn't look like Elsawin or is it something else?

Thanks for the info Mike.

I parked the car a foot over to the right last week as I wanted to get the ladders out over the weekend to clean the windows. I've just backed it out of the garage and I forgot so it clipped the mirror and the cover flirted off and its broken one and split the other of the retaining clips, stupid flimsy $hit. The part number on the label says 5K0 857 538 D5Q - £28.30

Sorry to hear about this.
1) Makes very little difference to the width.
2) So they can see whats in the house were you hide your keys and so rob you and steal your car.
3) Stuff happens, i distroyed a door in the winter, and someone here has had how many repairs to their GTI now

Keith sorry to hear this at least its a quick fix and not a side of the car. I would much rather hit a mirror than the side.

(1) Oh yes it does.
(2) Draw your blinds and let them only do the outside. The maid does the inside.
(3) Cheeky!

I did exactly the same when I tried to lever the glass out on the passenger side one, there's a definite knack and not one I possess for sure

I might attempt the passenger one tomorrow - but I would rather not replace 2 mirrors!

Hi guys,
Some fool clipped my drivers mirror the other day. I thought I'd gotten away with no damage, but alas no! My indicator lens is slightly damaged... Weird, it's the tiny little bit of the lens on the inside of the mirror housing that you can see from inside the car that broke off, the force of the hit must have forced it to snap.

Anyway it's mainly a minor cosmetic issue, but there's a hole now where it should be covered so I reckon water will eventually mess up the lens!

I managed to take the mirror apart. Really easy, followed the excellent instructions here, glass pops off easy enough. Here's the damage:

My qustion is, is the following all one part? I couldnt see any way of separating the indicator lens from the black plastic bottom. It seems to be plastic welded on, didn't see any screws or clips! And if it is one piece, does anyone have a part number and a rough cost??

I might replace the yellowy puddle lights with LED ones while I'm at it

EDIT! Looks like I'm right, it is all one part, see here - http://www.eaceuroparts.com/parts/parts_search_page/60/2011/GOLF6C

Part num is 5K0 949 102

My tell tail broke of mine when it fell out I tried super glue but it wouldn't take. I don't recall it allowing water into the indicator there is no hole there.

I tried super glue too. Didn't work either! There's definitely a hole in mine, I've covered it with clear tape for now. I'll get the replacement part at some stage, no rush.

Good luck on that, i've just broke the passenger side glass trying to remove it.
The drivers side popped out quite easy but the passenger side didn't want to budge.

Let's see how much VW want for a new one tomorrow.

Exactly the same happened to me! Did you get the LED puddle lights? Passenger side one much harder to remove for some reason. The glass cost me about 45 euro from VW... I'd expect something like £35-£40 over there. Not cheap!

I saw them much cheaper on eBay but I just wanted it sorted ASAP and I wasn't sure about the quality of the eBay ones. The VW one comes with the backing plastic stuck on but I think a lot of the eBay ones don't and you have to stick on the old plastic backing yourself.

I broke the Mirror Glass and the indicator plastic.  The Mirror cost £33.65 +VAT.  The Indictor cost £21.15 +Vat.  Total £65.76.  I initally order the ebay ones but they arrived and are not the same and dont fit.  They are going back....
