'87 Golf Clipper Cabriolet Driveshaft Bearings
« on: 27 July 2006, 17:30 »
Ok, so i just changed the bearings where the driveshaft connects to the gearbox, on the left, passenger side of the car.

If i jack up the drivers side of the car, i can spin the front wheel freely. i had done this before the bearing swap, when changing the hub on that side. No change - but then i didnt change anythign on that side anyway.

If i jack up the passengers side of the car, i can spin the front wheel freely for a short amount of time, and then it comes up against resistance (from the gearbox end, not the brakes end). Ive never done it before on that side, so not sure if it spun freely before i changed the bearings or not.

Is this something to do with the linkage between the two front wheels, and ive just never noticed it before, or have i done something wrong with the bearings? like is one of them out of place or damaged something?

it seems to drive alright...!?! just too concerned to drive it on the road at the mo!

Thanks,
Jon.
