  • Don't know mate,it was like that when I got here.
My MK3 2.0 gti has been SORN for over 6 months. Before it was off the road it started ok and ran well though it developed a fault as the left indicators stayed on when the alarm was armed.
I had the battery on charge overnight last night came to start it today and nothing.I can hear the pump priming and a relay clicking from the fuse box when I turn the key to start.
After searching the net I assume that its a faulty relay in the alarm box.I haven't tried tapping the alarm box lightly to try and free the relay,I have found out that the indicator wires from the box are blue.I thought the battery was shot and wouldn't turn the engine, jump leads didn't sort it.I think I may have to take the box to my local auto elec place for a replacement relay, any ideas would be appreciated.

My question is would the immobilizer stop the car from starting if the alarm relay is stuck?

Thanks

I lightly tapped the alarm box and the indicator lights went out,I will have a look inside the alarm box when I have time.A mechanic friend had a look at the golf earlier and suggested a new battery as It has been stood a while, after a 24hr charge it died within a few minutes, not even turning the engine, just pump priming and relay clicking when I turned key to start. Also no power was getting to the starter motor.

I'm not sure with the meta alarms but my dealer fitted conlogic needs decent power before it will disarm (and the indicators stay on when the battery is flat and i disarm it!)... a full charge is needed before it will disarm properly

Thanks for the input Brad,a new battery it is then.I think a Vag-com cable won't do any harm either.

Thanks again

have a 405 Mi16 in the garage and the alarm drains the battery. I always get similar problems when trying to start that car!
So yes new battery should solve it!

I got a new battery today ,no joy. After talking to my Dad he said he'd charged up the battery a few weeks ago and reconnected it.When he opened the door the alarm sounded off.As Dad's do ,panic set in and after 5 mins of the alarm sounding off he disconnected a battery lead,(nice one Dad,,errr key fob !!!).So in effect the immobilizer has thought that the car was being stolen and locked out.Any suggestions ??

I would either get the meta removed or find a meta supplier for disarm info (I know they wer'nt vw approved..so google time)
best bet is remove the meta as tats must be about 5-10 years old by now?

Yeah the meta was fitted in 2000,I have a phone number for the nearest Meta specialist,I will phone them tomorrow.I was thinkin of removing the power from the alarm box( it is spliced into power behiend fuse box) and then removing the spliced wires that run to the ignition and reconnecting. This will be a last resort though if I can't reset it.Thanks for the help
