The navigation aerial is roof mounted in the stubby fin. It will still work but the reception will be nowhere near as good with likely regular dropouts of reception.
TCR, Pure Grey, DCC, Dynaudio and Climate Screen.

You will need a separate GPS aerial but you won't need the sharkfin.
When retro fitting the RNS 510 nav into mk5/6 Golfs, most people would have tucked the gps aerial in behind the unit, say behind the centre vents, out of view. I did this and it worked perfectly.

I guess if anyone was attempting this upgrade and already had the discover nav, then the existing gps aerial/sharkfin would connect up.

This is clearly the least of your difficulties though!

Hello from Germany,

well, I retrofitted a Discover Pro with bad end.

My 2013 Golf Mk7 was delivered with a Composition Media and so I
changed the HU and Display. At the first time it worked very well.
But with the "Component Protection" the Radio was muted.
Ok - so i drove to the dealer and he unlocked the Discover Pro.
But at this moment the Nav doesn´t work any more.

After 20 sec. of working, it says "Navdata not valid"...
look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsL6l-M_Pvw

I think the navcards are bound to the car´s VIN , like the A1 MMI 3GP.
(As my car wasn´t delivered with Nav, there is no possiblity to bind it to my car´s VIN)
You can´t retrofit it.

I've spent a lot of money for it.... uuuaaahh

regards
Futzel

I hope that's true,  very good news indeed if it is,  let's hope there's no way around it either (other than the official route).

Very interesting. This is the first retro fit I've heard of in the mk7 and this also proves the rumours that VW have tied the units to specific chassis numbers to reduce the theft / black market. The eBay market for RNS units in the mk5/6 was and still is huge!

Was there much work involved in fitting the unit??

Sorry, this is no help to your problem...

To change the head unit and Display is under 10 minutes of work.
The wiring is 1:1 the same.

To remove the component protection was no problem for my friendly VW Dealer.
As the head unit was not a stolen unit, my dealer unlocked the component protection via online Connection to Wolfsburg.

But there is no way to activate the maps for my car... after 20 sec. they are locked.
And this is my main problem.

CP can only be done at a VW dealer. VCDS or VAG Command will not be able to remove it as it requires an online link for VW to ensure that the unit is not a stolen one.

I have a question, does anyone know how to enable driving data on the radios? We tried to fit a new unit and it does not display driving data. We tried a few things but was unsuccessful.
