Thanks Fred, that sounds more reasonable esp when taking the parts list into account, here's hoping it won't be necessary in the near term, fingers crossed for Papa.

At least they're better than my dealer was - when mine got replaced under warranty, before I dropped it off, the service adviser said "At least you'll get a new cambelt out of it." to which I told him it had a camchain lol.

Edit - just realised that was my 1,000th post too!!

The water pump impeller runs on its own dedicated belt driven driveshaft located at the front of the engine directly below in the inlet manifold.  :nerd:

Most people report the swap out of all of the bits comes to about 500ish+vat.

Parts cost you normally hear is about 350+vat.

So that's north of £800 quid then. Why quote prices plus VAT like that's optional or somethink? I could save about £50 by just buying parts which come in Skoda, not VW boxes.

No, I think for mk 7.5 they had redesigned part and it was metal rather than plastic. Not sure if it was on a volkswizard video or in a magazine doing a used mk 7 feature. I will try and find it and post.

An water pump is a service item. The issue has been the thermostat housing which develops leaks, not so much the pump. The housing has been modified several times over the years, the latest part number is that shown above.

Ok so he’s talking about Mk7R but I assumed applies to other 2 litre Golfs (also appreciate a petrol and Diesel engine are different)

At 15.20 he talks about coolant leaks.  As described above by Papa John it’s the thermostat housing that leaks and causes the issue.
