I can get you the down pipe for £200 mate. they are superb, best ones you will find
K04 versions like mine are around the £260 mark tho as they are much more complex design

love it, you get to build an awesome project and someone else is paying!!!
gunna be awesome!
-
I may have one at £200, thats what the qpeng one comes to after the VAT. More pressing issues first though  Wont be till next year now as I'm supposed to be saving for a mortgage

Update time.
Managed to get some work done on the MK2 this weekend.
Got the MK3 fully stripped out, and also got the MK2's old engine removed and wacked in the bay of the MK3 ready for MR Scrapman
anyhow some pictures for you
The ABF engine had to be removed because we are using the Gearbox and full subframe from this car in the MK2 conversion
(http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/8760/img1955nv.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/11/img1955nv.jpg/)
(http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/4058/img1972ww.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/263/img1972ww.jpg/)
The ABF engine is FORSALE,complete with Loom, ECU, Key and Transponder £250 ONO
(http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/9254/img1964cc.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/440/img1964cc.jpg/)
We removed the full Subframe complete with the 288 brakes etc.
(http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/3666/img1988c.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/809/img1988c.jpg/)
(http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/2660/img1993e.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/641/img1993e.jpg/)
I have started to clean up the Gearbox, pictures of this will come another day.
We removed many more parts from the MK3, salvaged the bits we can sell on for the owner and recoup some money to put back into the conversion
many of the body panels were past their best and had either rust or nasty scratches
(http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/9930/img1992q.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/198/img1992q.jpg/)
Rest of the bits will be listed in the For sale section soon
Now the MK3 was almost fully stripped (We just need to remove the rear Hubs etc), we moved back on to the MK2 which is about to have a whole new lease of life..
Paintwork is bad, but this will be sorted as its having a full repaint soon. but thats another story.
Our job is to give it a new heart, so we got on with removing the 200k Mile 8v lump
(http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/4061/img1957f.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/703/img1957f.jpg/)
(http://img545.imageshack.us/img545/8494/img1958gg.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/545/img1958gg.jpg/)
(http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/8958/img1959mq.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/695/img1959mq.jpg/)
We have discovered some bad rust spots which we will weld and refinish.. luckily the rest of the shell is very good apart from the drivers front wing
some pics of bad areas are:
Under battery tray
(http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/9026/img1960o.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/600/img1960o.jpg/)
Small area on bulkhead needs some love
(http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/2697/img2008t.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/542/img2008t.jpg/)
Anyhow, out with the OLD
We removed the whole lot in 1 go, subframe, breaks etc all still bolted to the engine seen as we are replacing with the MK3 set up
(http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/2118/img1999xv.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/196/img1999xv.jpg/)

(http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/9260/img2002z.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/841/img2002z.jpg/)

(http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/627/img2006i.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/193/img2006i.jpg/)
I have my work cut out bringing this bay back to life...
(http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/8151/img2013x.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/263/img2013x.jpg/)
(http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/6751/img2006uo.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/819/img2006uo.jpg/)

(http://img802.imageshack.us/img802/6100/img2007q.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/802/img2007q.jpg/)
Finally the last thing of the day was to mount up the MK3 Subframe
(http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/3456/img2015st.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/64/img2015st.jpg/)
I have also been cleaning up parts of the engine
Inlet manifold, and throttle body is now back to its once former glory

-
I like it - I like it a lot
cheers mate. keeping my mind busy is this.. the car will be coming to you once finished
Just waiting on the owner giving me the funds to purchase more parts, cam belt etc is been bought tomo so we should have that fitted on the weekend along with the rear hubs off the MK3 and some wiring
also aim to re paint the engine bay on the weekend.
So far iv degreased it and got it back to the paint, this took some doing and 6 cans of gunk
it was like this
(http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/8151/img2013x.jpg)
now its like this
(http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/3928/imageyav.jpg)
and here is the MK3 subframe thats been cleaned up
(http://img848.imageshack.us/img848/1773/imageqpq.jpg)
You can see on here the part of the bulkhead that needs welding
Picked up a K03/s Turbo set up for it
(http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/4254/imagesut.jpg)
and iv got the Gearbox all ready
(http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/3382/imagetgk.jpg)
-
Awesome, can't wait to for more updates. If yours is anything to go by this should be equally awesome
Oh and the scratches...
     :afro:
-
the car is nowhere near as good state as mine so its a real labour of love but we are treating it like it is our own (as we would anyones car)
owner wants it to look like mine does under the hood (OEM style) I have bought all new plastics for the trim bits that bolt to the engine.. nothing will be left. should be good one done
We would have had this finished by now but having to wait for funds off the owner who is trying to hide the costs from the wife, as he also has another project on the go (air-cooled beetle) not cheap projects
-
Great work guys :afro:
-
Mk2's always seem to rust in that spot on the bulkhead due to the exhaust heat.
-
I forgot the scratches
Brad mate, I need to get Adams car finished before we can take your on anyway
-
yeah them scratches  cant have owt these days can we
Craig thats cool, need to get BAD car to you soon as you are ready. and then this one too, but no rush
Wayne, i never knew they went their. ill be fitting a heatshield from the MK3 to protect this area in future. im guessing the heat melts the paint leaving the metal bare ?
Its not in bad shape rust wise tho the rest of the car considering its age.. saying that, this car is only 2.5 years older than my MK3..
Who said MK3's were the rusty ones eh ? LOl
-
Okay, lets bump this bad boi up
Was delayed due to waiting on funds from the owner of the MK2.. back on it now and the Engne is going in the bay on our next Visit which is this Tuesday
in the meantime we have cleaned, stripped and repainted the engine bay.
Removed ALL the parts of the MK3 which we need for the MK2, rear hubs, breaks bla bla bla
fitted the MK3 ABF gear selector to the MK2, fitted the new engine mounts into the MK3 subframs which is now fitted to the MK2 as in previous post..
We have also got the Gearbox i painted mounted unto the engine along with obviously fitting the ABF flywheels and clutch and removed the MK2's rear brakes / hubs Etc
I managed to source some 16v clocks which i wanted for the project too.. this will be modified to work with the wiring loom (this is coming in a later update)
not much to show you till later in the week but here is the bay after all the prep work
BEFORE:
AND HOW IT STANDS NOW:
(http://img804.imageshack.us/img804/823/img2095eo.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/804/img2095eo.jpg/)
(http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/6692/img2098d.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/703/img2098d.jpg/)
We had to get the paint mixed up specially.. not bad match at all but was £15 a tin (you can see the small white tin on the front right chassis arm)
Bigger more interesting updates will follow this week and we will hopefully have this finished very soon
-
Impressive project guys! Its pretty cool to have a chance to do this and show off your work :afro:
Looking forward to seeing the engine sat in after looking at the pics of the engine parts being refurbed. That inlet/tb looks sexy!
-
cheers dude
just got engine in the bay, will update pics ones the parts are all back on the engine, kept all the refurbed parts off it for now until iv got the wiring done and any other bits completed
the 20Vt is looking good in the MK2 bay tho..
owner of the car wants us to do a Caddy soon too, and his mate wants a camper van doing.. so all is good..
-
That is cool to have more work lined up. Love it!
-
Looking good boys great work as ever.. Have you lacquered the bay ? Was there any rust in battery tray ?
Got much left to do to get it running ? Have you spliced the looms ?
-
Was some bad metal which we removed and treated. Have fitted a mk3 battery tray
OEM looms will be used yea and the OEM ECU
-
Wayne, i never knew they went their. ill be fitting a heatshield from the MK3 to protect this area in future. im guessing the heat melts the paint leaving the metal bare ?
mk3's seem not to suffer as many problems in that area against mk2's
-
MK 3 just seems better built tbh especially the interior..
Do like a mk2 tho.. Kind of getting attached to this one :lipsrsealed:
-
Air-cooled campervan? May have some issues with that one.
-
As in difficulty wise.
-
Yea I know, wants a scoobie imprezza engine in that one
-
Nice project man!
-
Is this going to be a career for you boys now or just remain a hobby ??
-
Would be a quality career
-
Hopefully a career mate.. looking to try set something up next year.. i have a few plans and ideas and so does Ben.. plus we love this sh!t.... made some really good contacts too..
Here is engine in the bay.. i still have the cam cover t refurb and the alternator, plus i have lots of other bits to replace with new bits.. but i will do this last because i don't want things getting dirty
(http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/434/imageyky.jpg)

Good work guys! :afro:
-

Cheers guys, its much appreciated
We now have a handfull of conversions already lined up for the new year so exciting times.
A couple of mates are organising a car show for next summer so we are going to get a stall there to show off our work, there will be Brad's 1.8t, the mk2 1.8t, hopefully a caddy 1.8t, the bay window with the scooby turbo and mine with the twin turbo set up, so a good range of stuff we have done, should drum us up a little more business
-
Yea and hopefully the new girl that's come on to the scene for me will want hers doing too haha
-
Good times ahead then guys! I'm glad the future is looking rosy for you too :)
-
The owner of the MK2 has had a change of heart.. right at the last minute!!! says he does not like the MK2 and wants another Caddy......
but good for me and Ben as we now have 2 cars to convert..
This MK2 is now going to be either ABF or VR6 powered tho and sold...or maybe i can convince him to do it as a 20VT still
Anyhow, first up this car is going to be the one thats 20vt powered!!!
Picked this little bad boy up today.
2 owners from new.. one farmer and one other old dude.. 98k 1.6 petrol all original
paid 1k with about £2000 worth of parts!!!! could almost make another caddy with the bis we have got. ranging from wings, doors, flat cover for back..needed 2 vans to get all the bits home.. even got MK1 headlight washer jets with looms, new genuine windscreens, new genuine badges a private plate which took my fancy as it reads GAG 69Y haha (this was part of Mk1 the owner broke so i have got the V5 and the mint bulkhead off this car as a spare!!.. bloody all sorts!!
ill get a load more pics, but i took these earlier, not good pics as i was wet through to my skin and freezing.. plus i hurt my finger which i almost chopped off last week

-
Good luck with converting the caddy, should be interesting when finished.
-
Awesome man! I'm looking forward to seeing this :)
-
'Like'
-
Hope the finger has grown back.
That's a total bargain.
Tidy caddy's are always fun, and they weigh even less than a mk2 so should be quick too.
-
Top work from the pair of you as ever.
-
kells are you willing to employ me if i move up to dews???
-
Aweseome... another mK1 to grace these pages!... got any spares you don't need?
-

Do you have any for these paid conversions?

Lol.
DH has a point - but I'm more than sure you are not running a business and just doing favours for friends.

Never do anything by halves... People that know me will already know this
No need for negativities on this thread about it tho Thomas... Dont hate - participate..... Or button it

Apart from the spelling comment I wouldn't say it was hate or negativity.. More like making a valid point.... There is always a "what if something fails" issue on someone else's car that you did work on and it might not necessarily have been your fault.
-
I think we all know he was been negative as usual.. It's the same old story with him and it's gettig very boring tbh
Unless he is interested in a conversion it's got nothing to do with him what we do. At the moment all the cars we have lined up are for people who either know us or are friends of friends who all know the score.
If and when the time comes for me and Ben to go public then of course we would cover our backs. Be stupid not to. I for one do not want to operate a dodgey company and I know Ben shares the same views as me.

Depends what engine you are interested in matey and also what spec the base car is too and how far you want to go with it
hit me up on a PM and i can sort you out a really good deal.. with a conversion that is as clean as the one in my golf.. this caddy will also be the same finish once completed
-
Sorry for lack of update.. had some very very bad personal news over the weekend and my head is all over the place
the old engine is out and the dashboard is also out.. i will update with pictures of this in the next day or so
Myself and ben are just sourcing the engine mounts so we can offer the engine into the bay.. iv got the wiring looms sorted.
might have to have the trackslag downpipe modified.. this is something i need to check hopefully on the w/end
Aslo Bought a G60 brake set up for this
Hope you're ok pal.
Nice work on the caddy, now finish up so you can look at my MK4!
-
Cheers mate
back down working on the Caddy Wednesday nite
-
Right, this car is almost completed now as i got some monet off the owner for parts
i have not got my pics yet but ill update with all those on the W/end
Engine was removed and he painted the bay Black
Iv since put the engine back in, and wired un the OEM loom and ECU
Few bits still to do, cam belt, mk2 16v tensioners, intercooler pipes etc.. then the mk2 16v clocks need wiring in, Mk1 GTI driveshafts, G60 brakes etc
As i say.. will upload pics on the w/end.
Need to finish off this project now because iv just bought a AUQ 180 BHP engine to fit into my Dads Mk4 GTI 2.slow
Then we have a Camper van conversion on the cards too..
-
Sweet dude
wounderd were you had got to with this. Glad to hear its going well
-
Looking forward to the pics Brad :) Keep it up you guys :)
-
EPIC READ :)
-
Good to hear it's almost done, needs pics though
-
Right, a few pics, not many as theirs loads on the guys phone who owns the caddy which ill get when i get chance.. I am extremely busy at the mo with my music, DJ work and Cars.. and currently in process of sorting the AUQ engine for my Dads 2.slow
Got Sump of the AGU, did the pick up pipe.. was most blocked iv ever seen, lost the picture but trust me it was as bad as it gets... I'm surprised the old K03 the engine had didn't go poooop!!
Advise anyone with 1.8t 20vt to do the pick up pipe, we do this as standard procedure
sump was full of sh!te too
(http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/1606/imagehuy.jpg)
cleaned it all out
(http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/2436/imagesoa.jpg)
worked on the wiring, everything is plumbed in engine side, apart form 1 plug thats old square style on the loom i have, and the Alternator is new oval style, so just need to source a new style connector and swap out the plug
inside i have got all the wiring done apart form a few wires which ill do next week, got dash back in and once iv finish the last few wires ill tidy it all up and fit the remaining trim parts of the dash (this is a replacement GTI dash we sourced)
I am using MK2 GTI 16v 160MPH clocks so we had to modify the looms to make these work..they are twin plug where as the Caddy was single
(http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/7628/imagenla.jpg)
Refurbished the G60 brakes, used genuine repair parts from VW (Not cheap)
Ben has been tussling with the GTI driveshafts, having a mare with broken split pis and other annoying expected crap on the caddy (he was also nursing a huge hangover from hell which did not help matters)
More pics on this later, but here is one of the GTI Driveshafts we sourced (genuine VW item)
Decided to keep the coolant bottle as a MK1 GTI item so i sourced a brand new one with cap
Need to do same with he window wash bottle
(http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/8602/imagedmn.jpg)
Engine is now home for good.. once the final bits have been completed (next week), i will wave my magic cleaning wand over it all one final time before the keys are handed over to the owner for good
Here is how she looks at present

Can't believe I have only just spotted this thread! My hat off to both of you guys, you're doing some amazing works, looks first rate! :afro:
Where's the air intake on that caddy/AGU?
-
Air intake is not fitted iv removed to clean etc, but sits same as all other 20VT engines top right
cheers for comment too
-
Does the owner want anything doing about the suspension/handling etc to avoid it powering off into a ditch or something?
-
yeah we got MK1 GTI set up for the front, he choose FK coil overs (awaiting delivery)
the rear is leaf spring on these, will be adjusted to suit front
-
Have you tryed the bonnet on brad :lipsrsealed:

Yeap.. Did that the other week all good
-
hey man, love the work in this thread
a friend is currently in the process of dropping the efi 8v gti engine out of his mk1 ready for an agu 20vt swap from a 96 audi A3. giving him a hand with it as i plan on doing the same with my mk2. but we are both pretty baffled about the wiring loom.
do you have any kind of diagram or write up that could be of any use? you seem like the expert and best person to ask
thanks in advance
-
Not caught up on this in ages... looking good... Are you going to be flipping the rear axle on it?
-
Didn't notice reply on here
Will be flipping the axle for sure
The conversion is. Iw completed but the engine needs a new injector (number 4)
The owner is also having issues with his G60 brake and cool over fitment. So we are gonna sort this for him :-)

What's the issue?
-
He has swapped to G60 brakes and hubs, he didn't realise swapping the hubs means you need the G60 ball joints and they have to be drilled to fit the Caddy lower arms, also the track rod ends need maching down and re-threading due to an insane amount of toe. Doing this has prevented the need for spacing tho as the hub sits pretty much inline with the arch now
Also the Caddy Coily's needed adapting slightly to fit the G6o set up, all in all, a complete ball ache

A few pics of how the bays looking at the mo

The charge pipe on the left of this pic needs shortening slightly so as not to foul on the headlight once it goes back in

-
Not sure a out that boost run. :undecided:
Is that the only way it can go ?
-
had a issue with this car, was no power to the injectors, must be a break in the loom
anyhow, i got it running tonight.. car just needs exhaust now and the fusebox tidying away from view etc and then a final clean of the engine and general OCD clean which ill attend to in the next week..
We are converting a MK4 for the same guy a week on saturday so need this out the way
owner is over the moon
a short video of it alive (no exhaust fitted and very low on fuel)

Hmmm. I'd hate that! If it was mine it would get a polish every night .
Would love you to but the funds are running very low ATM as I just bort a mk3 abf gti and a mk2 Jetta ready for my first conversion . Did want to do a 1.8t originally but the abf was a lot cheaper to get hold of and I do like the abf engines, as I'm used to a 1.6 mk3 the abf is fast enuff for me....... For now
-
Good job there fella, where did you get the boost hose chips from?
-
What's a good (non ocd ) ball park for all the bits and a self install + map at Carbon, this is getting more tempting...

do you mean me suppy everything and fit it matey ? or just the price for fitting ??
would depend on engine used and donor, your MK3 ?
we can talk via PM if u wish..
-
Did the customer specify blue booste hoses? Not to my taste but each to there own.
-
Customers choice not mine
Did warn him, he now regrets them
Black is only color I'd ever have personally
-
Hmmm black would have looked a million times better lol.
-
Never been a fan of coloured hoses myself either. Another great install none the less.
-
Cheers matey
And yea colored hose IMO screams out chav haha
-
Glad you said it cus i was thinking it lol!
-
Amazing very impresive!
-
Tidy job....
How much to do mine!? :lipsrsealed:
-
bring it on matey
-
Been down tonight to just tidy some more bits up, the mk2 fuel pump needed re-piping and securing so did that, bled the brakes, modified (due to the engine mount) and fitted the cam cover and explained how to flip the rear axle as the customer is doing this.
Got a little bracket to fabricate for the brake light switch, due to the lack of space in the bay we had to do away with the standard pressure switches and install a mk2 pedal switch
Shaun, im sure we could do you a good deal mate
-
bring it on matey
Well if I was to go ahead and do a full on restoration rebuild of my current motor then I'd need something to tied me over.
Wish I had the money right now, I'd be tempted.. Be interested to know how much something like this would cost me.

Sounds good.
The barking system in these is shall we say, a little bit unique!
Must resist the urge for conversion!

We have fitted G60 280mm front brake set up on this one, so should be a bit better
-

Yeah, I'm running the same calipers but with MK2 Valver servo/master cylinder and discs. Even that makes a big difference. Has the customer opted for a bigger servo/cylinder?
PM me when you have some time and let me know what kind of money makes this conversion happen, curious.
-
hmmm youve turned this round faster than garage doing mine, oh well you live and learn lol
on a side note you mention your using a mk2 fuel pump? Which pump exactly and mated to what mk1 tank? just pondering pump choices at minute for mine
thanks
mat

Using the fuel pump from a mk2 GTi 8v, will need wiring from the fusebox and the space for it next to the existing tank is tight but it does go in....... just, a bracket to support it will need to be fabricated too.
This kind of conversion should have only taken us 3-4 days but it started as a mk2 GTi to 1.8T, the customer changed his mind just as we had fitted the engine to the mk2, then the customer ran out of money mid way through the Caddy install, and it was the customer who bought this engine and there were hoses and sensors missing everywhere which we had to source.
Like I said, actual work on the car 4 days tops, thats drive in, drive out
-
Good work... Looking forward to my build
