Android Auto
« on: 24 March 2018, 16:42 »
I know this is in the archives but things change.............

You can't get Android Auto Google Maps / Waze on info screen via an i phone with car play.

Seems you need an Android phone with minimum Lollipop 5.0. OS

I know there are several that use Waze on here and agree it's brilliant, as I only have an i phone do I need another android phone to connect to the infotainment screen and any suggestions on which is best value model new or used.

As it will be only using it for this in-car purpose I guess a PAYG sim would be the best option?. As I do not do a massive mileage.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Thought it gave you the option to connect via android or apple car play when you connect your phone?

There is an option until you connect phone. iPhone connects only to Apple car play.

Am I right in thinking you have it, I know I'll like it/need it. I can get a £65 ZTE Blade on vodafone PAYG deal. Is that all I need?

It should run on any Android phone. I have no idea whether a lesser or more phone will make any difference.

Actually, my youngest daughter has a Motorola G3 (which is hardly a greyhound)... I'll see if I can persuade her to let me try with it tomorrow... I normally have a Galaxy S7.

That would be great, I don't know anyone with an android. Sad but most are on apple or basic phones. Many sedentary neighbours in our village. I am the outrageous eccentric, but need Waze as likely to lose licence without speed warnings. Seriously.
So can you confirm you use Waze?

I do use waze normally. I tested just simple Google maps earlier for you and it was a bit slow to start but worked OK. Let me try waze tommorow

Great, thanks. Seems like a budget Android is the way to go.

Does Waze operate with other apps in background, say Spotify.

Yes all Android Apps can multitask, this isn't a fruit based operating system :-P
