I think the angled bits on the R grill are going to be there - there was a few pages back a sneak peak at all of the performance golfs and their power outputs from some leaked VW internal publication. You can see the angled pieces on the R on there.

I think the grill itself is going to be difference - that spy shot one looks like it has a current Mk7 honeycomb grill - compare that to the Mk8 GTI/GTD/GTE they have revealed - its a different grill.

So I think its just a lash up still, but it will look like that.
Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro

I’d hazard a guess the 8R front bumper will follow a similar style to the new Passat R-Line

I see the bumpers have sensors for park assist which I thought couldn't be achieved in the R

I think it looks quite good with the wide mouthed lower grille spilt into three sections - IMO, much better than the lower grille on the GTI, although I think the rear end looks very mpv-like (not just the R; the mk8 in general). Sadly, the angled body coloured sections in the lower grille appear to be camouflage, hiding what’s underneath (you/can see they’re taped on camouflage in the 21st of the 29 pictures in the link posted by Fred), so the production version might not look as good. Hopefully it’ll not just be another all-black wide mouth like the GTI / GTD / GTE versions have.

Is it just me after watching all the mk8 reviews so far that worries VW simply have not done enough testing of the interior interface and controls.

One reason I’d not be an early adopter of a new model; I don’t want to be an unpaid VW product tester. I’d wait a couple of years into a car’s lifecycle before considering buying, when hopefully most of the teething troubles would have been discovered and sorted.

Personally think they’ve made a big mistake going for the interface they have. Would have been better with the system in the new Octavia as that has the same overall look whilst retaining more physical buttons. I imagine, from reviews such as the Autogefuhl ones etc, that the Golf will be very hard to use when driving other than the main controls on the steering wheel. Might be wrong of course.
