Newbie after advice before I buy the wrong car
« on: 25 October 2018, 21:21 »
Hello all,

I’m new to the world of VW having had BMW’s for years.

I’m after a MK 7 Gti as a daily driver but also the occasional track day.

I’ve done many track days in the past and always has dedicated track cars but family commitments no longer allow this.

I’m going to look at a 2015 DSG Gti on Saturday at a VW dealer, car is up for £16,995.

I’ve read that the performance pack gets you a decent diff and bigger brakes.

Question is should I buy the car I’m looking at without the performance pack and buy an aftermarket diff or can I get more car for my money.

What is the standard diff like on track?

Does any body have recommendations for aftermarket?

Thanks in advance

Hi
I don't actually own a GTi but I was looking to get 1 before the misses forced me into a gtd so I did a fair bit of research. The stardard diff isn't actually a diff, it's a system that nips at the brakes to pull a tighter line( I think it's called XDS) the diff in the performance pack it the real thing and it makes a massive difference (my opinion from a few test drives). With the pp you also get more bhp 227 up from 217 and like you said bigger brakes, the same ones fitted to the R, or are they to same as the GTi pp :). If it was my money and I was going to track the car I'd hold out for a pp model

Cheers Tom
