Golf mk7 / 2019 GTI oil questions
« Last post by Big Col on 09 April 2024, 20:05 »
hi all,

Car registered march 2019, engine code DKTB, I'm planning on doing an interim DIY oil change, I'm old fashioned and 18K miles on the same oil just isnt right.
handbook says 508 or 504 spec oil

according to the history car has had 3 oil changes, only one change mentions the spec 0w20 - thats 508, correct?

508 seems to be rarer and £££'s compared to 504. So I'm going to put 504 in it.

Propaganda on the interweb suggests the 508 spec was only to eek a few more mpgs out of the engine.

Any advice or guidance much appreciated.
Colin.

I’m going to have a play with wide angle on the RVC @Doc. Hopefully not too buried in the menus to find! 😁
EDIT: found it !! Wonder if OBD11 would be able to set it as default

Are you trying to suggest mk8’s have a bad reputation @Yusee?

@Herstman, you have the experience to know exactly what you do and don’t want when the 128 goes, hopefully you’ll find another peach of a 7.5, be it TCR or R.
It might be nice to have one of each on the drive rather than two R’s but if the right example comes up then you’d have to jump at a second R.

Diff fault iInvestigated today by a local indie. They found the pump had very little oil in it, less than 300ml and it should have best part of a 1L or something. No signs of any leaks and the filter was completely clean, so sounds like it's been low for a long time considering there's no record of it being serviced.

The indie managed to source some oil from a local Audi dealer, but apparently the oil is on a 12 month back order. Indie recommended replacing the pump, and if that doesn't work sending the ECU away to be investigated, but I'll see how it goes with the fresh oil in the correct quantity first..!

A KITT for the next generation (shame they are not red)
Or if you are into older sci-fi an updated Cylon

It would look great in red. Unfortunately illegal to have red light at the front of a vehicle though in most countries.

Thanks for the fitting walk through guy1, it doesn’t sound too daunting.

Perhaps the mobile fitter was more used to doing truck tyres. Poor show but glad to hear it was all sorted easily
