Buy Mk3 golf gti 16v or Mk3 golf vr6?

As topic above!Advice to buy use vw golf mk3,If budget not a problem which is a good buy for fun and performance between mk3 golf gti 16v and mk3 golf vr6?A lot of information from the forum says the mk3 golf vr6 is nose heavy effect the road holding and in term of performance the mk3 golf gti 16v actual bhp is 170 but vw detune to 150bhp,the reason vw detune the mk3 gti 16v to 150bhp because mk3 golf vr6 only produce 174bhp if the mk3 gti 16v with 170bhp so nobody will pay more to buy the vr6!Please advice thank in advance!

16v is less heavy and thirsty than VR, handling on both is pretty crap in OE condition.
I would go 16v and stick on some decent arbs and suspension components.
Either will take a 1.8t engine from a Mk4 when you get bored, VR trim level is a little better as std.
Buy on rust/shell condition at the end of the day.

The story about 170bhp is a load of old guff imo
