I've had my Pilot Sport 4's on my 2017 Golf R for 3 years now (only done around 20,000 miles in that time) and there's now 3.5mm on back and 5mm on front so should probably get them replaced. Are the PS4's still the best one to go for?
-
Look on YouTube for tyrereviews. He does really good comparisons and the three best are PS4, Goodyear Eagle 5 or Conti 6. The Goodyear seems to be the best of both tyres. If you can hold off for now Michelin are releasing the PS4S in 18" which is normally the go to 19" tyre.
-
I'd like to get Pilot Sport All Season 4, but for some reason they are hard to get in the UK.
-
I was looking at new tyres and it seems in 19" PS4's are still the top tyres so thats what I bought
-
PS4S's all the way. I'm running them on the GTI, the 335i and will even get them for the X5 Alpina's.
-
Need to remember the 18" PS4 is different to the 19" PS4S. You can't really compare them.
-
I'm on my third set now, that's how highly I rate them. Camskill have/had them on offer at something like £65 a tyre after cashback. Fill yer boots!

Further to this ^, Tyrereviews also has a video comparing the PS4 and PS4s (and another tyre I cannot recall ATM). His conclusion was that there are small but significant differences, with the PS4s being the better choice for steering feel, turn in and stability.
I've had PS4 for ~26,000kms and am generally impressed, especially with traction and wet grip. But I find them a little vague and floaty on turn in - I'd like something with more feel and bite - such as the PS4s. If these aren't available in my 18" size, I'll go for the new Goodyear F1 or Contis next time.
-
Bridgestone have a brand new Sport tyre coming out which has bettered everything in a German tyre test. I'm sure Jonathan on Tyrereviews has said he has a test coming up with them.
-
I wonder if that's the S007a? Sounds interesting.
-
That ones already out. This ones just called Bridgestone Sport 🤷♂️
-
Cheers. Will keep an eye out for it.
-
I think PS4S in 18" and also the new Bridgestone Sport in 18" will be good to see what Tyrereviews say.
-
Fitted PS4S on 18s today - quite a premium over the PS4 but hopefully they will be worth it.

'Made in USA', not seen that before on a set of Michelin's over here.
-
I didn't know they did PS4s in 18's 😢
When did they come out?

Don't mention that car, my heart says yes but my head says no.

We get Thailand made (denoted as ST on the sidewall) PS4. There's some discussion here in Aus. that the Thai built ones have less sidewall plies and are not as sharp to steer as the European ones you blokes get. More a "touring" class tyre.
Hence I'm looking for alternatives. The new Bridgestones McMaddy mentioned sound very promising. From memory I think our Bridgestones are made in Japan, so the real deal.
-
They seem to be available but no one's actually tested them yet. Tyrereviews have said they will be testing them soon (delayed due to Corona).
-
The ps4s in eighteen wasn't available in the UK and now we see "made in USA" on them.. I suspect that means they've imported them and that the usual supply from (probably) France still isn't making them.
I was quite surprised when I searched to see that most tyre manufacturers have plants in the USA. You'd have thought they'd have made them somewhere cheaper these days.
-
I'd be very surprised if the GR Yaris factory tyres were from the US.
-
Prepare to be surprised.
I especially like that the car isn't even available there, so the tyres go from the you essay to Japan, then on to the UK. Very eco.

is the US the only region that does the PS4S in 18"?
-
No idea on that one! Does look a bit odd but guess it all comes down to cost.

Just a quick question, I see the PS 4S' in 19" 88Y but should the GTI need XL rated tyres?

Just checked and yes, they are extra load tyres.
However the next question relates to the size: I have the 19" Brescia alloys and when I enter the reg. no. in various on-line tyre sites seem to think that they are 235 / 35 profile not 225 / 35's that are fitted to car. Any idea why that is?

235 would be for 8J width, but the Brescia's are 7.5J for which 225's are fine.
The Pretoria from the R and the new Mk8 19 inch wheels are 8J width.

I need some new tyres as my fronts are getting low, rear Pirellis look new.
I'm going to get the PS4s all round at some time but for now will get the PS4s on the rear and move the Pirellis to the front. I found these PS4s', wondered which type forum members went with?

Hi dobb3r,
Try Blackcircle.com they are doing 10% off two, which will be cheaper.
Cheers, Chas 👍
