So I was just reading something on the Government website regarding VED from April 2020 and the new WLTP Co2 figures (which it seems are yet to be published for all manufacturers).
According to that site, based on initial figures, it suggests that CO2 figures for most petrol and diesel cars will rise by about 15-20% under the new WLTP tests. It further goes on to say, that it could mean for instance, that a car that had a CO2 figure under the older NEDC figures of 145g/km, could now rise to as much as 174g/km, meaning that would push first year VED from the current £210 up to a wapping £855 (an increase of £645).
So according to the BMW specs. the new M135I X Drive has CO2 figures of 155-162g/km under the old NEDC figures, so only needs no nudge to 171g/km or more to be in the £855 VED bracket. Is that correct, if so bloody hell.
Weirdly, it seems irrespective of how much CO2 it produces, the 2nd year on VED is only £145 unless the list price on the car is over £40k when an additional £320 on top of the £145 will be levied until the car is 5 years old.
Does that sound about right ? I assume if you already own the car and it was registered before April 2020, you will continue to pay the £145 per year ?
