I have a MK1 GTi 1983 in Lhasa Green. Its been garaged for the last eight years without running and I have finally got roundto getting it ready for an MOT.
I'm have a nightmare getting it to run though.
As precautions I have drained the fuel off and refilled it with fresh,changed the oil and filter, fitted new battery,new fuel filter, air filter, water pump was shot, fitted new thermostat and waterpump, pump drive belt and timing belt, spark plugs blah blah.
It finally fired up today and would rev round to the red line but it will not idle. It was also running very rich even with the cold run injector disconnnected. When I tried to let it idle the engine cut out and refused to restart.
It then locked up completely as I thionk the continual turning over has filled the cylinder with fuel and caused a hydraulic lock!
Any ideas anybody?
