Rear Brakes banging
« on: 04 February 2019, 10:33 »
Does anyone else experience the rear brakes banging/holding on momentarily when reversing after the car has been parked up for a few days? It's like the auto handbrake is not disengaging correctly.

The pads will have seized on a little bit.  If it’s just when you first pull off, it’s nothing to worry about.

Yes, they stick on due to corrosion. Doesn’t do the pads and discs any good either. Mine once stuck on in the garage after a wash. Really hard to disengage with DSG! Leave the parking brake off now.

Yes maybe with discs but years ago when rear drum brakes were the norm, you usually dragged the rear along like a yachting dog before the shoes let loose their grip.

It used to be far worse on my MK6 GTI,i found that if you pour water between pads and disc just before you pull off the drive it stopped it happening. It never really worried me once i knew why it was happening and the MK7 only seemed to do it when it was less than six months old.
Golfgti build quality is average at best.
